The American Dream

The American Dream is the idea that anyone from any background, race, religion, creed or economic standing can be born in or come to the United States and make it all the way to the top.

Oprah Winfrey started life on a poor farm, and eventually grew to be one of the best known and most respected journalists in the country, as well as being an actress and running her own company.

Bill Gates dropped out of college to write software because he had an idea that one day every home would have a personal computer. Now he is one of the richest and most powerful men on the planet. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is the largest philanthropic organization in the world.

Ask 4 of the following people what their American Dream is and put their answers and your answer in the blog as your post.

My mother's american dream was to get married, and have a family with a nice home. My neighbor's american dream is to grow up, recieve a job in nursing and have a steady life for her family. My brother's american dream is to become the president, or leader of a state. My cousin's host sister is visiting America this year. Her dream is to be able to grow up and move here one day and raise a family where there are less rules and restrictions. My american dream is to become a marine biologist, and raise a family in America.

1.)My Personal American Dream:

After Highschool, I should like to attend Case Western and become an orthopedic Surgeon. After achieving this career and with all financial matters settled, I should like to marry and have four to six children, depending upon my patience and the time I can afford with my offspring. Between all of this- and to be sure, I'll be climbing out of this situation claiming to be the greatest of multi-taskers -I would like to travel to other countries as well as the United States, tending to children who are dying, and providing medical care to those without. Along with this lot, I would love to own an assortment of animals, due to the lack of and discouragement of animals throughout my childhood and teenage years (Thanks, Mom )

Upon asking my mother and grandfather what their American Dream was, I came away from the experience with a frusterated, if not exasperated, attitude; My family is so unresponsive!

2.)My Mother's American Dream:

To obtain a steady job and to cultivate a house suitable for our four-member family, accompanying our needs, and in pursuit, our wants.

3.)My Grandfather's American Dream:

As much as he would like to deny it- my grandfather wishes to purchase a large, admirable house with quite a few acres, a Corvette, and to continue to build on his wealth- though he is not the sort who strives after wealth- on the contrary, he is a most humble grandfather.

3.)My Aunt Teresa's American Dream:

To go back to school and become a midwife, therefore pursuing something she actually enjoys, and to raise her children to the age of which she may receive some time alone to clean her house. Along with that, she hopes to bring her family out of the financial crisis they are sinking in.

4.)My friend Kendra's Amrcn. Dream:

Kendra hopes to score an excellent Georgia college (Emory, preferably UGA), marry her boyfriend, and raise a child- All the while obtaining success and rising above the situations given to her by her family.

One of my teachers' dreams in America would be to come and visit the USA. See how this country is, and to make some good money.

One of my grandparents' dreams is to pass down knowledge from them to us, to know of the past, and what the government is REALLY like.

A best friends dream is to be happy with where you live, I remember what he said, "No matter where you are, America, Africa or somewhere in Asia. As long as you know that you feel in the right place, it is the right place!"

My uncle's dream was to come to America, be rich and successful. "Who says dreams aren't reachable?" He said.

I asked my parents and my siblings and whoever else and I could tell right off the bat that is really not what they wanted or they were all saying the same thing. Basically "The" american dream, also portrayed in scarface, is power and wealth because everyone coming to america obviously wants a better life or why would they come to america. the american dream is also to be that one in a million because america is known as the land of oppurtunities which is true becasue a lot of actors, actresses, and important people have come from america or came to america at one point for a better life. The american dream is freedom.

My Moms American dream is to be financially independent, not necessarily extremely wealthy but comfortable so she could help others in need. Also that her children would be successful personally and in the work force.
My Dads American dream is to own and run his business.

My Aunts American dream is “Like all parents, many of my dreams are actually dreams that I have for my children. Of course, I have many dreams just for my life, but I think the dream that I have for my kids is best. After living in Japan for 10 years, my perspective of the American Dream has changed considerably. Before living abroad, I didn’t really consider what America can offer its citizens in terms of dreams. But, once I returned to America with the eyes of someone who understood another culture, my curiosity about having an American dream (something I had not considered before) peaked. Suddenly I was able to see what different cultures offer their children – particularly girls. While Japan has amazing educational and travel opportunities for everyone, it is still very traditional in its view of what girls should do with their lives: marriage is the first priority for girls. So, my American dream was to first bring my girls back to America (Crazy, right? The first part of my dream is to actually bring my kids back to America!) so that they could experience the broader opportunities offered for all parts of their life and then to capitalize on all of those opportunities and not only passively enjoy them, but to seize them – to recognize and utilize their talents to actively shape and create a life that is of their choice and their conscious decision. Also, America has an incredible spirit of giving – I want my girls to participate in their communities and share their talents. In short, for my girls to never waste the freedoms and opportunities that other Americans have worked so hard to offer (I’m thinking of the fight for women’s right to vote, only 80 years ago!), make the most amazing life they can for themselves and then share their talents and experiences with the world, wherever they choose to go." ( my aunts exact words)

My Older Brothers American dream is to be the coolest big brother ever! ( kind of corny but I love him)

My American dream is to go to college and get the education my parents never did, to have a job I love because people always tell me if you work doing something you love you will never work a day in you life. Also I want to have a family and have a nice house that I can call my own.

One of Your Teachers: Teachers don't have dreams, they became teachers.
Your Sibling: My sister's dream is to finish college and move out.
Your Best Friend: My best friend's dream is to kill zombies with me when they take over the world. Also to acheive something no one else has before.
My American dream is to become successful and make my dad proud of me for once.

1) My Dad's American dream: to be rich, live a long time, and for all of his kids to attend and graduate college.

2) My grandma's American dream: to live a long life and to see all of her grandchildren graduate college and be successful.

3) My brother's American dream: to graduate high school, go to college, and play in the NBA someday.

4) My best friend's American dream: for racism to end, and to be either a psychologist or a social worker when she's older.

My American dream is to graduate college and maybe get a Masters degree, to get married and have kids, to have a healthy family, to live a long life, to be successful and rich, and to be maybe a teacher, lawyer, doctor, or a crime scene investigator.
