Fate

Fate--

There are many who believe that we live in a world of fate. No matter what we do, our lives are never truly in our hands but placed into the hands of something greater than ourselves like the stars.

Listen to two of your favorite musicians. What reference, if any, do they make to fate?

Type those lyrics into your post and then explain if you agree with the idea of fate or if our lives are the direct result of the decisions that we choose to make.

1. Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper" : "All our times have come,Here but now they're gone,
Seasons don't fear the reaper,
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain..we can be like they are
Come on baby...don't fear the reaper." Basically, fate is in the hand of the Reaper.

2. The Turtles' "Happy Together" :Me and you and you and me, No matter how they toss the dice, it has to be, The only one for me is you, and you for me, So happy together..."

Being a spiritual individual, I passionately believe that we all are dictated by God's hand, and that fate rests within Her. However, I also believe that the decisions we make dictate our lives as well- on more of an interior level than exterior(such as events or decisions we cannot control).

"They say bad things happen for a reason
But no wise words gonna stop the bleeding
Cos she's moved on while I'm still grieving
And when a heart breaks no it don't breakeven even... no"
-The Script
They make reference to fate because of that first line when it says that bad things happen for a reason.

"If it fires you up you gotta let it shine
When it feels so right that it cant be wrong"
-Blake Shelton
They make a referenct to fate because of those lines by saying that if it feels right it will lead to something good in the future.

I think your decisons do influence your fate, your final destination never changes but you may make a wrong turn along the way but then another decision along the way will get you back on track.

1. I got a job workin at the old park pier
And every summer now for 5 long years
I grease the gears, fix the lights, tighten bolts,
Straighten the tracks
And I count the days til you just might come back " 'til summer comes around" by Keith Urban.

2. There’s no going back to the start again
Time will tell us how the story ends
So beautiful, we can make it right
The world is ours tonight
The only thing I have is everything to lose
I would lay it all on the line for you
To be here by my side
The world is ours tonight "The World Is Ours Tonight" by Gloriana

I think the decisons we make can influence fate. People cannot control everything that goes on in the world. Sometimes fate can come without a person realizing it, but I think it would have to be influenced by an earlier decison in life.

"Tastes Like Kevin Bacon":

"You're begging for papa. We're safer but we wash our hands in death."

When i listened to it, I thought they're trying to say that people try to get away from it, but their fate will still happen.

Nirvana
"Lake of Fire":

"Where do bad folks go when they die? They don't go to heaven where the angels fly. They go down to the lake of fire and fry."

This songs tells of how if you were bad on your life here on Earth then you will get your fate and basically go to hell.

You are my destiny
You share my reverie
You are my happiness
That's what you are

You have my sweet caress
You share my loneliness
You are my dream come true
That's what you are

Heaven and heaven alone
Can take your love from me
'Cause I'd be a fool
To ever leave you dear
And a fool I'd never be

You are my destiny
You share my reverie
You're more than life to me
That's what you are

You are my destiny
You share my reverie
You are my happiness
That's what you are

Fate is a desert.
God dwells in its sand.
If you seek your Sinai
you receive his command.

Fate is a strip of land
with many stones spread.
Happy he that endures:
he shall earn bread.

Into heaven's halls
no one goes before
he has stepped unafraid
through Fate's door.

II

You know you bear a shackle
and hear the chain rattle.
But one who hammers hard and long
Can make a shield of its metal.

You know you bear a poison.
But all death's juices
becme in a wise and careful hand
kind healing forces.

You think you bear a cross,
but it's a tool, you know.
Your life's the material. Look here, take hold,
and let the martyr go!

III

Wish for nothing that others have had:
all happens one single time.
Wish for nothing that some bard
has sung in his loveliest rhyme.

One star-bright night, when you lie awake,
Fate will knock at your door
and seek you with eyes of colour strange,
which no one spoke of before.

She fell like dew from the air,
from the bosom of space she came,
and no one, no one has met her gaze,
and no one has given her a name.

To you she has come from Nothing's land,
she has been created for you,
and no one, no one in age upon age
has kissed her lips more than you

Ys i agree with them also they go with the whole romeo and juliet theme.

'Cos hells broke loose in Georgia and the devil deals the cards.
And if you win you get this shiny fiddle made of gold.
But if you lose, the devil gets your soul."
-Charlie Daniels...The Devil Went Down to Georgia.

Im a Christian. So personaly in my opinion God holds our fate in His hands. It is our choice to follow it though. God knows were you will go when you die, but the choices we make determine were we will go, so it's pretty much all up to us. Fate is in God's Hands, but the choice is up to us.

"You say yes, I say no.
You say stop and I say go go go, oh no.
You say goodbye and I say hello."
- The Beatles
Fate is a direct and random path, but some powerful things such as love, pathways of greetings and departures can carve us in different directions. Romeo and Juliet came together in that one night and have said their hellos to the next step in their journey of their story's fate. Even though they say yes, the families say no and to stop their love from their loathed enemies.

"Keep you in the dark, you know they all pretend. What if I say I'm not like the others, what if I say I'm not just another one of your plays, you're the pretender, what if i say I'll never surrender."
-Foo Fighters
This song is about how the government, a "higher power"
(yeah right), is against us. Keeping us in the dark about everything we learn about and that they decide what we learn, what we hate, what we love, what we crave, help, remember, experience! It also shows that there are those in the world that will never surrender to the "higher power" hope in fates turn for revolution. I'm not "just another one of their plays", I tend to shed the light, bring in the crystal stairs and castles and look at its illusions it creates, but the image it shows across it like looking into clear water to see your reflection.

Fate has brought me a long way and it's been just great, that's why I salute you Big Brother. Hurray for you and the way we see the world! The fate of this world will end up in peace alright. Peices!

“We only got 86 400 seconds in a day
To turn it all around or throw it all away
We gotta tell 'em that we love 'em while we got the chance to say,
Gotta live like we're dying” – Live Like We’re Dying -Kris Allen
In this song fate is used because it is talking about how people should live their live now and today. Don’t put anything off until tomorrow when you are living today, tell the people you love them today in case tomorrow never comes.
“The only time you had to think of all the things involved
Came when you were least expecting
And now it's up to us to replace it
To tell us when ages have made a difference
Cause changes tell just who we are” Pages- There for Tomorrow
This song is talking about time changes events in your life. It says that events take place in life when your least expecting them to and the pages keep turning. When it says, “changes just tell who we are” it is talking about fate. Your plan and the changes in your life shape your personality and make you all that you are today.

1. August Burns Red "Indonesia"
"How does a man wrap his mind around eternity, when he cant even explain his own composition? Don't you see it's bigger than you?"
Pretty much don't bother worrying about things like fate that are far too vast and unexplainable, and focus on yourself and how you live your life.
2. A Day to Remember "My Life For Hire"
"You'll kick and you'll scream, you'll try everything to survive. But you should know your fate by now. They told me, how I should be but I broke the mold somehow."
Some people will try to push fate on you, and how your fate will be, but it can be changed and "break the mold" of your fate.
I dont believe we have a fate. What happens happens, why dwell on it, it's as simple as that.

Terror on the Catwalk - The Screwtape Letters
"This message is so clear,
the last part escapes.
You are the only one,
so keep my soul."
These lyrics are about the fate of love. They are saying that you belong with just one person and if that even if that person doesn't want you they still have your soul and there's no one else.

I'm Your's - Jason Mraz
"There is no need to complicate,
our time is short,
this is our fate,
I'm yours"
The song's meaning is pretty much the same. The fate of love and how there's only one person out there for you.

And no, I do not believe in fate.
You dictate your own life with your own decisions.

"I'm awake I'm alive now I know what I believe inside now it's my time I'll do what I want 'cause this is my life." skillet

this song is saying they can do what they want because it is their life.

"oh, the smallest thing can make all the difference love is alive don't you listen to 'em when they say you're just a fool just a fool do you believe you can change the world." Carrie Underwood.

this song is saying you can change the world by a small action

both of these songs are saying that you can change something and decide. I believe that you can make a difference in the world and you can do what you want. I believe that all our actions fit into a plan that is already made for us. The choices that we make are supposed to be made because our plan is already figured out.

When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that's the best
When I lay me down to die
Goin' up to the spirit in the sky
Goin' up to the spirit in the sky
That's where I'm gonna go when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that's the best
Norman Greenbaum- Spirit in the Sky

There is one ultimate fate we all have to face. Whether we going up to the spirit in the sky or not.

The devil bowed his head
Because he knew that he'd been beat
And he laid that golden fiddle
On the ground at Johnny's feet

Johnny said, Devil just come on back
If you ever wanna try again
I done told you once you son of a *****
I'm the best there's ever been
Charlie Daniels- The Devil went down to Georgia
This song is about the ultimate escape from fate, making a bet with the devil. If there had been fate in the world, Johnny wouldn't have gotten to make the choice whether to accept the devils gamble. But he came out on top and gave the devil his own challenge

1) The Words That We Have Chosen. By Inhale/Exhale.
"We will own up to the words we have chosen, and swear by mistakes we can't afford. We're running out of options, there's trouble when you're loney and it's always a choice to make. Is it right, what you want?"
This speaks to the idea of our lives being direct results of the decisions we make, and worrying if those decisions are the correct ones.

2)In A Lose, Lose Situation. By Emery.
"This is still my life, not yours to define."
Even though it is a simple line, it again speaks to the fact that we control our own lives and the way they turn out.

I have a hard time agreeing with the idea of fate, because there is no way to deny that actions you take directly affect your life and what will happen.

1) "God blessed the broken road that led me straight to you"
- Rascal Flatt's Bless The Broken Road

In this song/line, they are saying the road is their fate and God helped make the road and lead him to where he is and his love.

2) I know some day that it'll all turn out. You'll make me work so we can work to work it out... I Just haven't met you yet."
-Michael Buble's I Just Haven't Met You Yet

In this, he is talking about his fate and how he KNOWS will find his perfect wife, although he hasn't met her yet.

"fates right hand, i don't understand at all"

he doesn't understand fate and what it all means

i don't really believe in fate. if everything was planned out ahead of time, then we have no choice in what happens. if fate existed, then why would there be so much misery in the world?

1. Eminem "Mockingbird,"But then of course everything always happens for a reason
I guess it was never meant to be
But it's just something we have no control over and that's what destiny is,
But no more worries, rest your head and go to sleep
Maybe one day we'll wake up and this will all just be a dream.
2.White flag Warrior by flobots,
Do what you want to our courage
Ask us what you will
Demand from us a sacrifice
But do not make us kill

I believe in fate, that everything happens for a reason and all that but i think people do have the power to change their fate.

Looking at the hands of the time we've been given
If this is all we got and we gotta start thinking
If every second counts on a clock that's ticking

Live Like Were Dying- Kris Allen
The reference to fate that he makes in this song is that you have to like every day to the fullest and that every second counts. Whatever you do will influence your future.

2.
You are so beautiful, you are the kind of girl,
That has the chemicals that makes me fall in love,
Difficult, so very typical,
You are the kind of girl,
that makes me fall in love,

Fall in love...

You are so beautiful- Escape the Fate

This song is about a boy who loves a girl and fate brings them together he thinks.

2. geekymmcgeekstein "World's End" : "I want to make this shattered dream
An echo that is felt in the future yet to come
A light is born at the world's end,
And now that very light
Is what will make us unite
As a spark within the wind!"
She is saying that the light is basically our destined futures and that one point we were all together and the light is what will bring us together once again at the ending of this world.

You're time is gonna come - Led Zeppelin

Both songs pretty much say that, no matter what any of us do, our fate will all bring us to the same end, death.

I agree with this, you can be a street cleaner or a terrorist, but either way, fate will lead to the end of your life, a fate that you cannot change no matter what you do.

1. Lil Wayne "Forever" Life is such a badwording roller coaster then it drops but what should I scream for? This is my theme park. Lil wayne is comparing his life to a rollercoaster because of all of the ups and downs in life. But he's asking why he should panic about anything since he is making the decisions that are causing different events in his life.

2. Drake "Forever" Everyone who doubted me is asking for forgiveness if you ain't been a part of it at least you got to witness. This song is actually based on Lebron james and drake is basically saying that everyone who doubted lebron is deeply regretting it because of how amazing he is because of his own control over his future. He chose to try to make it from highschool to the nba despite doubts from other people but now hes the best player out there.

I agree with both of these artists that fate is something you can control. If I choose not to cut my own leg off, there's a much better chance that I'll have a leg for the rest of my life. If I have to choose between a blizzard and a milkshake, then I'm choosing what I'll have in the future. I get to choose things like that. But some things are out of our control like whether or not someone is going to break into my house and steal the handle on my refrigerator which would be very inconvenient. But I think that we do get to choose some of our future.

Before I Say anything else I would like to state what I think fate is. Fate is a culmination of your life choices. No on but God truly knows how our life will be. In other words faith isn't really predictable by any human and therefore is what we make it.

"And then you'll see her standing there, with green eyes and long blonde hair, she won't be wearing underwear, but she’s not the one and she'll never be fun you should just turn and run"
-Blink 182

Human hormones and twisted thought processes are accountable for many poor choices. Fate does include the many relationships and choices thereof in life.

"This makes me feel like I’ll never be quite normal"
-the almost

Fate is influenced by feelings and paradigms. So again for the most part we control our fate.

NO I do not believe in fate in its most common definition.

In the song "I'm Yours", by Jason Mraz, it says, "This is our fate, I'm yours." The artist tells a story of two people who he believes are meant to be together. The artist believes in fate, and that if people are meant to be, they will be together in this song. The song has the main singer explain it was meant for them to be together, no matter what.
In the song "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay, "For some reason I can't explain, I know Saint Peter won't call my name." The artist tells that he can not explain why, yet he fells he won't go to heaven, and he has not control over his life, no matter what he does in it.

This lifes so unpredictable." -A Day To Remember - Homesick.

"What’s out there?
What is my eternal fate?
It only just recently hit me,
That this life…is just a state." -Atreyu - The Rememberance Ballad

When dealing with the idea of fate, I like to believe that certain things do happen for a reason. Though, I also believe that you need to make your own path and live your life without worrying about fate and letting it run your life.

In the song by sleeping with sirens its about finding your love and if you never seen it coming how could that be fate.. So in that i think there is no such thing.. Its just the way you live life is how you make it end.. end of story.. no fate..

- A Day to Remember: The Downfall of Us All

This references fate because its talking about a guy & a girl's relationship and if they will end up staying together or breaking up.

2)"She's saying that's ok

This references to fate because its showing how he may want to have a relationship with a girl that he wasn't attracted to in the beginning.

I believe in fate, but I also think that the decisions we make every day can lead to our fate. Nobody knows how there life if going to be & what will happen to them while they're alive, so we just live everyday at is & let nature take its course, where fate may occur.

He wanted her, she'd never tell
Secretly she wanted him as well
But all of her friends, stuck up their nose
They had a problem with his baggy of clothes
He was a skater boy, she said, "See ya later boy"
He wasn't good enough for her, she had a pretty face
But her head was up in space
She needed to come back down to earth
Five years from now, she sits at home
Feeding the baby, she's all alone
She turns on TV, guess who she sees
Skater boy rocking up MTV
She calls up her friends, they already know
And they've all got tickets to see his show
She tags along, stands in the crowd
Looks up at the man that she turned down

One of the newer songs that I got for free from iTunes is called if I Die Young by the Band Perry. There are no particular lyrics that reference fate, but the entire song discusses what the singer wishes to happen to her if she dies young. I think that this references fate because the author knows that whatever happens happens, and doesn't seem to be bothered by it.

The second song I chose is "Sounds like Life To Me" by Darryl Worley. The song says, "sounds like life to me." The character is talking to his troubled friend and he said that his problems just sound like life, giving the impression that the singer is aware of all that life can bring, and believes that those problems can be stopped. In other words, fate.

I believe in fate to a certain extent. I think that choices we make affect our short term future, but not our long term. We can make decisions that will make us swerve on the road a little, but in the end we follow that road and end up doing what we are meant to do.
