This picture can be connected to the piece On Writing by Stephen King. It can be a metaphor for life. In kings life he went through many hardships. In the picture, it looks like there are twists and turns which can be like a hardship in life. The twists make it seem that it can be hard to get out of certain situations just like it would be hard for the smoke to get out.
This picture is of a chimney. This is a winding, twisted chimney that has tools sticking out of it. This is different then what was expected because usually chimneys are straight up and down and have a few tools displayed next to it. This connects to the texts that we have read in class because there were twists and was unexpected. There was conflict in the stories just like the conflict in the twisted chimney.
This picture is of a chimney that has many twists and turns. Normally chimneys are straight up and down and there are no twists or turns. I feel this is a metaphor for a person’s life. Life has its ups and downs. Along the way there will be some barriers you have to overcome. In Stephen King’s “On Writing” he struggles through a few different events in his life. One being that he was an alcoholic for a few years. However, he used the support of his family and friends and his own personal strength to make a change for the better. Another incident is the accident that was described at the end of the novel. King gets hit and has to stay in the hospital for three weeks. This made him fall behind in his writing. However, as soon as he recovered and was released he went right back to writing. The book is now published and is the book that I described this incident from, “On Writing”.
This is a picture of a chimney, however it it not like your everyday chimney. Typically they are straight up and down, but this chimney has many twists and turns. I believe that it is a metaphor for life, and the twists and turns we go through in order to find the correct path for us. Like how the smoke has to go through all the twists and turns to get out to where it needs to go. It connects to what we're reading in class because throughout all the stories they have downfalls and turns that they need to over come in order to get where they are trying to go. Some of the life events being sudden and unexpected.
Normally, when you see a chimney, it is a straight line going up to allow the smoke to exit. The chimney in the picture has a knot in it. This is confusing because the smoke will get trapped. It doesn't make any practical sense. But someone had a reason for making it. In the book we read, Into the Wild, Chris McCandless abandons his life for a new simpler one. This was a decision that made no sense to us. But he had a reason for doing it, and that really is all that matters.
This is a chimney. Normally, chimneys are straight up and down, and connected to a house. However, this chimney is by its self and very much twisted. I think this represents all the struggles we face throughout life. There are a lot of bumps, or twists in the road, but in the end we all make it through. I also think that it is standing by its self because we go through our life by our selves. We look up to other people, but in the end we make all our decisions based on what we want.

This picture in a good metaphor for life in that people expect to live life easily, yet, people experience problems like the knots in the chimney. This shows that everything goes unexpected much like how the text in "My Father's Noose" by Grace Talusan went. In "My Father's Noose", it tells how Grace's father was put on a noose by his mother. One would expect it was a story that Grace was telling about her father, but the twist comes at the end, like the chimney, where Grace says, "you" in the sixth paragraph and "He will." as the last sentence. The twist is that Grace is hinting that her father did the same things to either Grace or her siblings.
Chimneys are normally not thought about a lot because they are something that is not very exciting or stands out in any particular way. Many chimneys are average looking and usually never draw attention to themselves. Many people are also the same way. They go through life just making by but never really standing out. I believe this picture is a metaphor to the average life of a normal person. Many times the people you least expect are the ones who have the most obstacles to overcome. Like Stephen King mentions in his book On Writing, he seemed to have it all once his writing career took off. Nobody ever suspected he had hardships to overcome like alcohol and drug addictions. Sometimes, the most ordinary things in life are the ones that can stand out in the end.
This is a picture of a chimney, but not a normal one we see in a house that is straight up and down. Its outside and twirling around itself. It is very creative and and a great design. It connects to the texts we have read in class by it twisting unexpected just like the stories going in different direction and causing conflict. But coming out in the end just like the smoke.

This picture is of a chimney. The weird shape of this particular chimney can be related to Stephen King's life. He went through many obstacles to get to be the famous writer he is now, but like this chimney, he chose to be different and not be the way everyone else was just to gain popularity. The chimney represents the struggles of life. As smoke tries to escape we try to push through life. This relates extremely well to Stephen King. While he struggled through drugs and alcohol it was hard for him to produce much beyond the realm of nonsense. The knot in the brick work has the same effect. Smoke can't flow much like Stephen King's ideas couldn't.
In the picture there is a twisted chimney, normally chimneys are straight and precise. I feel like the chimney is a metaphor for life because there are many unexpected twists and turns. I feel like the picture of the chimney connects to " On Writing " by Stephen King because during his life he had many unexpected and sometimes unusual experiences that led him to being a great writer.

Everyone's life is different and is not going to look the same compared to someone else. Stephan Kings book "On Writing" has a part where King tells of his life. It's a metaphor for how things may not always look great but they will work out in the end. This is like how in kings life he had some dark times. The most prevelant that comes to mind is his abuse of alcohol. King got to points in his life where things didn't always look great but as we know now, they did work out in the end.

This picture of a twisting building is not what you would expect. Looking at this picture it makes me think of life. Life takes you through twists and turns. It can tie you in knots, just like this building is. This relates to Stephen King's "On the Writing" in life he experienced many ups and downs. He experienced setbacks, but in the end he was able to pursue his dreams. Just like this building life for him was complex.
The picture shown is of a twisting chimney. The twists resemble the unpredictable and erratic ways of life. This relates to the life of Stephen King as he explained in his book "On Writing." King succumbed to the effects of alcohol and many other drugs to continue his creative writing. Everyone's life twists as does the chimney but there is always light at the end of the tunnel, or smoke at the end of the chimney.
I feel like this picture is a metaphor for life. Not only life but a certain moment in life that is particularly hard or challenging. To me this picture looks like a sort of chimney. There are what looks like swords stuck through the bottom near a door or entrance. Then it seems to continue into a twist. It is very unique and makes you question how its possible for the brick to be shaped in that way. Chimneys are usually simple, for they only one main purpose, to burn wood and create heat in the process. Having the twist in it makes it stand out. The swords can represent a rejection that hit the heart hard while the twist in the chimney can example a confusing moment when he didn’t know what to do.

This picture can be a metaphor of life, as everyone has said. In life you need to expect the unexpected (a chimney that winds) and in life you will sometimes not be able to escape all you want to (the smoke coming out of the chimney). I can relate this to stephen kings book because he writes unexpectedly. King's writing is not typical and he doesn't structure his stories how society thinks they should be. He writes his own way. We can relate the second part to not being able to escape the hate. No matter where he turns, someone is always criticizing his work (the articles we read in class).
This is an odd picture and this chimney is not like traditional chimneys at all. This one has trumpets pointed and attached to the hearth of it. The smokestack of the chimney is in a knot so no smoke can escape from it. This can mean that everybody is telling you to do something (all the trumpets) and this will make you go twisting through life until it gets to the end where the smoke is free.

After careful examination, laborious internet searches and after receiving the advice of the finest council on "What is that thing?", I have determined that the image is of, dare I say it, A CHIMNEY! (I'll collect my Noble Prize later, for now I must get back to Breaking Bad).
In short, this chimney is a metaphor for the lengths people will go to to make something utilitarian into something "Edgy", or wonderful, or visually striking while in fact adding nothing to the worth of said object. I think the metaphor would be especially poignant if the design was so intricate that the chimney itself just went straight up from the furnace to the top with all the extra loops and turns and other such aesthetic nonsense were merely for decoration and did not actually carry the smoke (which really would make sense, 'cause the smoke would have a heckuva time getting out of there without getting a bunch of creosote buildup). This could be connected to King's warning to writers to avoid the use of adverbs, considering them to be flowery nonsense that adds nothing to the work.
After my own examination of the picture I realized a lot. For starters there seem to be knives or swords of some sort sticking out from the bottom as if before getting to the unique part of the creation you must pass through the hardest phase. I also realized how difficult it must have been to put such an amazing piece of work together. It must have been hard, but the creator knew that the outcome would be breathtaking so it was worth the it.
I feel like the chimney is a metaphor for how life isnt just easy, there isnt somewhere there thats just gonna tell people what to do. When we get older we will find out that there are gonna be obsticles in the way and we have to find someway to go around them or even through them, however someday we will meet the time in our life that we will reach the top and say we have made something of ourseleves.

This is a picture of a chimney. Unlike most chimneys, this one is winding, twisting and has random tools sticking out from the bottom. This picture could be considered as a metaphor of life, and connected to Stephen King. In the early stages of King’s writing he faced many internal conflicts, and hit road blocks. To get to where he is now, he most certainly did not travel down a straight and narrow path, just like the smoke that would travel through this chimney.

I think that the metaphor behind this picture is all the twist and turns it takes and all the twist and turns in the stories that we have been reading take. Also at the same time it's still just a brick fire pit which resembles that it's all the same
The picture isn't a picture of your average chimney, it is twisted and has spikes on the bottom. The twists represent how many turns and new challenges we face in our lives. The spikes represent the hard times a person goes through. The metaphor of this chimney is life, and how we take it on every day. This connects with King's life because he was not raised with both parents in his life, and he had challenges to face like working to provide for him and his family.
I believe this picture is an example of how there can always be unexpected knots and twists which will make it hard to fulfill a purpose. I think it can be related to On Writing. Stephen King never was really sure about anything and he face many twists and turns before he became the person he is today

Life is not always like the ideal chimney. Life gets its obstacles; the twists and turns, and the metal tools stabbed inside of brick. In Steven King's book, On Writing, we learn King didn't grow up in the fabulous famous author's lifestyle we would think he came from. He worked hard through the twists and turns and the things being thrown at him to follow his dream and create success for himself as well as his family. This is how a twisted chimney pictures above relates to a Steven King.

The photo is a metaphor because it compares a chimney or brick fireplace to a twisted knot. This can be interpreted that life isn’t always what it seems. Even though brick fireplaces are supposed to be straight, sometimes one may encounter a twisted one and figure out what went wrong. Life relates to this because challenges are often thrown into the path to success, but it isn’t about what the challenge is. What matters is moving past it and continuing upon your journey. This can be related to the Neil Gaiman commencement speech because of the way he talks about doing what is right. In order to accomplish what one wants in life, they must go through unnecessary tasks in which they feel are unhelpful, but in the end prove to bring them to where they need to be. Just do what feels right and they will get there eventually.

In this picture there is what seems to be a brick staircase leading upwards. However, it twists and turns in unexpected and strange ways. This can be related to On Writing by Stephen King. Throughout his entire life he dealt with many experiences he never thought he would such as drug abuse and his accident. Life works in mysterious ways. All we can do is follow the path we have.
The image is of a chimney that seems to have taken on many twists and turns like a roller coaster. This can be connected to King's book "On writing", the way he has depicted his life in the story is that of one with twists and turns and a bunch of nonsense that just doesn't seem normal.
The picture is definitively of a Twisted chimney. It is very possible that this sculpture is a metaphor for life. The chimney could represent the difficulties of everyday life. Like like the smoke from the fire, people have to twist and turn in every direction to get through things. The trumpets could represent an inferiority complex. The trumpets are facing toward the bricks in the chimney. When played, the sound will never reach through. Maybe this is a metaphor for people who have a hard time being heard in the world causing them to feel small and helpless.
The picture is of a knotted chimney. A chimney is usually straight up in order to get rid of the excess waste of creating a fire. In the essay "My Father's Noose," the boy is punished by his mother by being strung up on a noose, not hung, but just loosely wrapped around his neck as he stands on crates. Like the chimney, which is suppose to rid the fire of its waste but can't because of it's knot, the knot around the boy's neck only creates more problems than ridding the boy of the guilt of his actions. As the chimney cannot work as it should, neither can the idea of using the punishment to work on the boy, as it only creates more problems.
