Street Art

The word "Art" like any word is subjective.  We see art everyday and do not stop to appreciate it. Go to the site, Huffington Post, and look at what the different individuals say about the role or definition of art. Once you have have read through those definitions, go to the below websites and choose three art pieces to discuss.

What to discuss:
1. Give the title of each art piece before you discuss it. (If the art piece does not have a name, describe it as best as you can.)
2. Explain which artist's definition applies to each artwork.
3. Explain what you see when you look at the art piece.
4. What is the purpose behind each artist's piece of artwork? What is their message for society?

Websites to find the artwork:
1. http://www.aasarchitecture.com/2012/10/3D-street-artists.html
2. http://kurtwenner.com/gallery/street_gallery/
3. http://www.streetartutopia.com/?p=8241

As always, keep all posts school appropriate!

The first of the three art pieces that appeal to me is one of the 3D Street Drawings. 1. It is the one with no name or artist given, upon which the blonde girl is riding a bike. 2. The artist definition that fits it the best is the one said by Twyla Tharp. She says that, "Art is the only way to run away without leaving home." 3. I think this artist made a picture of their own world as an escape from reality. Their drawings are where they want to be and they are running away into the drawing. 4. The purpose and message to society shown through this piece of art is that you can create for yourself your own escape, and through creating it, you find the escape.

Second piece I chose was 1. Reflections by Kurt Wenner. 2. The artist definition that best fits this piece is when Pablo Picasso said, "Art is a lie that makes us realize the truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand." 3. When I look at this piece, I see a group of people standing around art trying to be the art, something that they are not. They are lying to themselves as they try to portray what they see. 4. The purpose of this piece is to show the onlookers that we are not meant to take in the things around us and try to become what we see. We are just meant to be.

The final piece that I chose was 1. Street Art by Banksy. It is the dove with an olive branch in its beak and a scope on its chest. 2. The art definition that fits this piece the best is when Andy Warhol said that "Art is what you can get away with." 3. When I see this piece, I see someone who is disturbed by the fact that innocent lives are being taken. 4. The message and purpose of this piece is to inform the public of the horrific things that are happening to innocent people.

Art 1: Hipster Trap – In New York, USA http://www.streetartutopia.com/?p=7878

“Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible."
Paul Klee, artist

It shows how common “utilities” like sunglasses and pop cans can be used to show how we are controlled by what we try to wear and consume to represent our identity.
The hipster trap, in my perspective, represents how we’ve gone so far to use THINGS to represent who we are, to create an identity instead of finding it elsewhere or trying to display good character and personality to develop the individual. Instead we use material goods to show who we are; we’ve even used material goods to go so far as to contradict what we mean (which is how the hipster originated and is why we hate hipsters).
The purpose of the art is to convey a sort of humor that goes along with people’s hatred for hipsters. It goes against it and shows that there’s a typical set of attire a hipster wears/uses to make themselves who they are.

Art 2: ETAM CRU in Lodz, Poland http://www.streetartutopia.com/?p=8466

"Art is art. Everything else is everything else."
Ad Reinhardt, artist

The quote made by Reinhardt describes this surrealist caricature in an accurate manner. Nothing can be sure about what’s going on in the picture in comparison to real life. All you can say is that it’s art. It is what it is.
The art represents what it stands to be. It shows freedom of expression, allowing the mind to venture where logic can make no connections and so it allows itself to just wander into the psyche and see what it cannot see. This art in particular shows a giant (it has to be since it’s riding ooze-filled elephant) that is being lifted up with the elephant simply by a tiny, red balloon. It’s like a weary traveller coming from psychedelic India and is trying to find out where he can find more green-colored petroleum to run the engine of his liquid elephant membrane.
The purpose of the art is for the sake of itself. But you can never tell with a surrealist artist because it’s not followed by any sort of logic. It shows that the best kind of art is the art that can be experienced through the interpretation of the viewer and that whatever makes the mind experience a new perspective that is separated from everything else will allow art to be given its name.

Art 3: http://www.streetartutopia.com/?p=89

"Art is the Queen of all sciences communicating knowledge to all the generations of the world."
Leonardo da Vinci

Art brings the entire brain into action when it tries to create connections within a single frame. Seeing a cave painting cleaned by the hissing water made my stomach churn. It showed that cave paintings, just like graffiti, are history (art that people will remember and use to determine what we were, what we did).
The meaning that the graffiti artist was trying to communicate was that graffiti is not a criminal act and that it’s not something that should be erased because it would be erasing a part of our culture and history. This would destroy knowledge that the future generations would use to better the world and interpret what we meant by what we did.

The first artwork I chose is called "Ghetto". The quote that it relates to is "Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible." by Paul Klee. When I look at this painting I see despair. The colors are dull and dirty looking, people are cramped or dead. That is probably the reason behind this art, to make visible the struggles of those living in the ghetto and to make others feel their despair.
The next piece of art I chose is called Perseus. It portrays the Greek story of Perseus and his flying horse Pegasus, killing the gorgon, Medusa, using his shield and sword. The quote it most relates to is "Art is the Queen of all sciences communicating knowledge to all the generations of the world." by Leonardo Da Vinci. The purpose, as Da Vinci said is to communicate knowledge of this story to generations to come.
The final one is called "The Last Judgement"which I believe works very well with Georges Braque's quote "Art is meant to disturb. Science reassures." This artwork depicts the scene of the last judgement described in the bible.Science teaches us that this is false, backing with reasons. However, this piece of artwork is disturbing, as Braques said, showing twisted bodies and a hell waiting below. I think the artist's purpose was to frighten some with a common notion found in his religion.

On the Street Art Utopia site, I found a piece of artwork where two children are shown drawing on the walls of what appears to be the side of an underpass.
This goes with Damien Hirst's definition of art, "Art is childish and childlike." This piece shows that by emphasizing the fact that people begin doing art
when they are children. I believe this piece is saying that art is important and gives children an outlet to express and explain their thoughts. Society
needs to encourage and allow children to do that. I see a refreshing piece. It makes me hopeful about the future of art.

The next piece I chose was on the same site. It was the piece of paper on a wall that said LOVE on it and had rippable strips that could be ripped off.
It said "(Take as much love as you need)." I think it fits Robert Motherwell's definition best: "Art is much less important than life, but what a poor life
without it." I thought this because I looked at the piece and thought how generous and compassionate it was for someone to put that on display. Someone was
thinking of others and what people feel they do not have. I thought about how this would make a difference in someone's life. The art enriches lives. The
purpose of this piece was to show that people still care about others in the midst of this "cruel" world. Everyone deserves love, whether it is from
friendships, relationships, or family.

The third piece I chose is from kurtwenner.com. It is the one titled "Mermaids". This piece goes with Twyla Tharp's definition of art: "Art is the only
way to run away without leaving home." Through this piece of art, people are transported from a regular city to a mythical and magical place full of
interesting creatures. I see a mythical world when I look at this piece of art. The purpose of this piece was to remind people that having an imagination
is okay. I think that this artist wants to remind our society that it is okay to be creative and imagine things.

The first piece I chose was 1. Ghetto by Kurt Wenner. 2. The artist definition that best fits this piece is when Vincent Van Gogh said "Love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is done well". 3. When I look at this piece I see Strength in each persons eyes. I see people dealing with the daily burden of having to wake up to nothing, being trapped in the underworld of having nothing. 4. The purpose of this artwork is to show the ghetto and its affects on everyone. The message to society is to show the feelings of the ones tapped in their version of the world they see. Its a way to see into the life of the ghetto through Kurt's eyes.

The second art piece is called office work. 2. The artist who expresses this painting best is Vincent Van Gogh, when he said "I put my heart and my soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process". 3. When I look at this art piece I see struggle and a hectic day at work. 4. The purpose is to show stress. His message to society is not to let work get the best of you.

The third art piece is called St. Anthony. 2. Da Vinci best explains when he states, "While I thought that I was learning how to live, I have been learning how to die." 3. When I first looked at this piece I thought it was a rebirth a renewal with the use of water in front of a church to show the archetype of rebirth or death. 4. The purpose is to show renewal. The message to society is to cleanse in the water to renew yourself and renew your soul.

1)The first piece of art i choose is called Reflections by Hurt Wenner. The piece connects with the definition saying "Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible.".The art shows the peoples true color and shape due to the clarity in their reflection. This art piece shows that people can be true to how they are and society should be true to themselves.
2)The second piece i choose is the 3D street drawing with the girl riding her bike over a gaping hole in the street by using a thin board to cross over on. The proper definition would be "Art is meant to disturb. Science reassures." In this case the picture is something that would never happen and people realize that. The artwork has a feeling of danger and this may tell society to not be so shy and to themselves and to be bold and outspoken.
3)The last piece of art is the street art utopia piece where the cut down trees are made out to look like they are colored pencils. the definition, "Art is childish and childlike." is perfect for this one. The art piece is childlike and everyone can relate because everyone has colored with colored pencils. Children are usually the ones coloring so possibly the art piece is meant to tell society to not always be serious and to be childish and playful.

The First Art peice i chose was "Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible." Paul Klee, artist. I think this art peice means that art can really show you true colors of how someone is feeling.

The second peice i choosen was "Art is a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand."
Pablo Picasso. i think this peice makes you really look at the art. i feel like they are lying to them self.

The Third peice i chose was "Art is autobiographical; the pearl is the oyster's autobiography."
Federico Fellini, director. I feel like art can be beautiful and very warming to others.

These three peices eachhave there own meaning. In the first peice i fell like they are trying to make art become a more commen thing. The second peice i feel like they are trying to say that you dont have to hid or lie. and the third one to society i feel like they are trying to send different messages out. Behind every art peice there is a message.

The first piece I looked at was called "Street Art LOVE" and the artist is the Baltimore art project. In the words about the art from a blogger was, "There is nothing more uplifting than good street art". When i saw this piece it almost instantly caught my attention. The word LOVE in this piece is a painting but looks as if they are shaddows cast by peoples hands onto the wall. The purpose of this painting was to show true passion for love.

The second piece I looked at was a picture of about eight trees that were cut and painted at the ends to look like crayons. The artist of this piece is Jonna Pohjalainen. In the words of a blogger, "This piece is very creative and really makes me want to pick up a crayon and draw a picture". When I looked at this piece I wanted to pull out a box of crayons and color. The purpose of this piece I feel was for pure entertainment.

The third piece I looked at was called "Yarn Bombing" by B. Arbeiten. One blogger on this piece said, "This is the real modern art, honest, inspired and global, congrats for the collection". When I first saw this piece I saw a lot of colors and from far away it doesn't look like yard. The entire tree is covered in raindow and neon colored yarn. The purpose of this piece was along the same lines as the other one, just for pure entertainment.

1. The first piece I chose was from the first link, and doesn’t have a name but is by Edgar Muller. It is one of a hole and the Eifel Tower into the street.
2. I believe this definition applies, “Art is either plagiarism or revolution”(Paul Gauguin), because using the Eifel tower in the street are technically plagiarizing it from the original. Also, viewing a large hole in the street as beautiful, and creating art on the street are revolutionary ideas.
3. I see a new way to look at potholes and art in general, that it can be anything and anywhere. I also see a new style of viewing the Eifel Tower, on my level from the piece.
4. I believe the message is that art can b in many different forms and is not always conventionally beautiful. This shows work is involved in both destruction and construction.
1. The second piece is Ceres’ Banquet by Kurt Wenner.
2. "Art is childish and childlike." (Damien Hirst). I think this fits because the painting is out a bunch of mythical animals eating a feast together. The creatures are childish and imaginative.
3. I see a new imagination idea that anything is acceptable in art. I also see how some people can be seen as greedy animals as they are possibly shown in this picture.
4. I think the point was to comment on how greedy people and feasting s and how some people behave inappropriately. This shows the imagination at its best as well and places animals where wealthy people would be.
1. The third piece I chose does not have a name or author but is a set of stairs that have stained glass tiles on the sides to as your going up you see a mural.
2. “Art is much less important than life, but what a poor life without it.” (Robert Motherwell). This mural and work is not nearly as important as the stairs themselves, though they would be quite ugly without the art.
3. I see a river carrying fish down it along with walkers on the steps. It is very colorful and beautiful.
4. I think the author is showing that even dirty, cement stairs can be beautiful with some effort. Also there are many paths of travel, and beauty is everywhere.

Art Piece 1: a) I chose the 3D art piece with the fire and water taking over the street. b) I chose the definition of "Art is a bang/blast." by Tarō Okamoto. I chose this because the flames and reflections in the water appear to be from the aftermath of a blast or tragedy. c) I see a demolished street and city reflecting back in the water, which was drawn on a nice suburban street. I believe that the artist viewed the city as ravaged and destroyed and reflected that in their drawing. 4) The message is that no matter how collected a city may seem, there is always destruction within it.

Art Piece 2: a) The second piece I chose is on streerartutopica.com, and is tree banches carved to look like colored pencils. b) I chose the definition of "Art is childish and childlike." by Damien Hirst, because this picture reminded me of a child's fantasy of giant colored pencils for them to play with. c) When I look at the picture I see an "Alice in Wonderland" type world where everything has been magnified and taken to its extremes. d) I believe the message behind this piece is to never forget the child inside of yourself.

Art Piece 3: a) My final piece is also from streetartutopia, under the pencils. b) I picked the defintion of "Art is the only way to run away without leaving home."
by Twyla Tharp because this picture seemed to be the inner thoughts of someone spilled out onto a staircase. It was filled with youth and fun. c) I believe this picture was an escape from reality, it allowed the dull and boring staircase to become a playful location. 4) The meaning is to never lose sight of the excitement of life.

The first piece of artwork that I liked was the waterfall one in the 3D street drawings. When I look at this art piece i saw a boat with a Canadian flag and the water slowly turning into a waterfall. I think the prupose behind this art piece is to show something historical that had happened in Canada, I'm not really sure what it is, but that's what I am assuming from the boat and the Canadian flag. That is what I think the artist was trying to portray in this piece of art.

The second piece of artwork I chose was also from the 3D art section, it was the last piece with with the guy holding is cellphone up from underground. When I looked at this piece I saw a meeting that was taking place and it was underground and a man holding up a cellphone while another man was trying to crawl out of the hole where the guy with the cellphone is at. I think the meaning behind this piece of art is that technology is taking over. This man was trying to get a good reception and couldn't because he was underground. I think it shows that America in present time cannot function without the use of cellphones or any other type of technology for that matter, I think that is what the message is trying to be told in this piece.

The third piece of art I chose was from the picture of LOVE written out on a wall in sign langauge. I chose this because I liked the idea of it. LOVE is written in black and in the backround is just a plain gray wall with some blue squares. I think it is tryign to send the message no matter where we go or what we are doing we should love one another and treat everyone the way you would want to be treated. Love in this way though would no be love everyone like you love your mother or father, but to always be a good person and help people out as much as possible and we can all try and make the communtiy a better place, that is what i think the message is in that picture.

1.The first art piece That appealed to me was the street drawing of the mouth and a recycling pill going in it. 2."Art is much less important than life, but what a poor life without it." Robert Motherwell, artist is the definitions I think best defines this art. 3.I think the artist made this to sow the world the earth needs medicine to help it heal from what we've done to it.4 The purpose with this artwork is to show society that recycling is the medicine earth needs to stay healthy.

1The second art work chosen was the street art on a building a hand holding a tree and it being fed into a mouth with buildings as teeth. 2. the best definition is "Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible." Paul Klee, artist 3. When i look at the piece I see nature being distroyed by people and our creations. 4. the purpose of this piece is to show what humans are doing to the earth and trying to help them realize that we are slowly eating the earth away to nothing.

1. the third art piece I chose was the african american sitting outside the picture she rip herself apart from while the other girls work. 2. the definition would be "Art is what you can get away with." Andy Warhol 3.I see this piece to show a little rebelling is a good thing. to be different and stand up for what you like is okay. 4.this piece show society that wanting to be different is okay you just have to decide to pull your self from it.

The first of three art pieces that I enjoy is from http://www.aasarchitecture.com/2012/10/3D-street-artists.html
where street chalk illusions give a 3d appearance from a certain angle. A specific piece by eduardo relero caught my eye. His sense of perspective with a Eiffel tower composed of sand was impressive because of the level of detail in the perspective, it still appeared 2d to an extent, but it didn't look like it was sitting in the background either. The artist most likely used this piece to cause a disturbing feeling in others, the idea that such a carefully drawn 2D drawing can inspire their mind to register it as a 3D standing image, or as its said. "Art is meant to disturb. Science reassures." Georges Braque.

The second piece is done by kurt wenner, known as Babel http://kurtwenner.com/gallery/street_gallery/pages/14_Babel.htm
I personally feel that its realistic 3-D appearance is staggering alone, its like a world opening up below them. This world would not be visible under normal circumstances, much like how "Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible."Paul Klee. Its purpose, overall, is to show the optical illusions of distance vs perspective, how long an illusion can be maintained under the barriers of distance and size.

The final piece was
Street Art by Jonna Pohjalainen http://www.streetartutopia.com/?p=7803
here, we see trees resembling something that we usually find after they've been broken down and repainted, now, we find dthem at the other end of the spectrum, turned into pencils when they are still the giants that they are, freshly cut from the ground. the definition could essentially be a serious recreation of something to be found in a young child's mind, "Art is childish and childlike."Damien Hirst, artist. when I view this personally, I like to think of how much beauty trees have been used to acheive, as material and scenery, and now, we see that in their fallen form, they still re-create some form of artistic entertainment.

The first 3 of the 3D Street Drawings really caught my attention. 1. The first drawing is of open whole that looks like it was made from meotor and a girl is riding on a peice of wood over it. 2. The artist gives a definition that perfectly describes the drawing of 3D art. 3. The artist displays a unique 3D drawing and is now in high demand for business

One art peice that draws my atention is the 3d stret art one with the girl riding the bike. It has no name or artist on it. I see many great color and imagination at its finest. the purpose of this piece is to show how dangourous the world can be.
Another art peice is the Kurt Wenner babel piece, I see cretivity and like a religion based standpoint. the purpose of this piece is to show religion on the streets and spread it.
One more piece I like is the neptune one by kurt wenner. it reminds me of spongebob and says so much about the roman days

1. The first art piece I choose was from the third link. It was the two pictures of the painting on the side of the bridge of a man holding a torch in his hand. The picture under it was when the light was hitting the bridge making the torch look like it was really on fire. The definition that I think applies to this piece of art is "Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible."
Paul Klee, artist. I think this applies to the piece of art because the art work really makes the sun light visible, some people may never take the time to see the sun, but it’s very noticeable in the artwork. When I look at this picture I see a beautiful sun set reflecting on the bridge.
2. The second piece of art I choose was also from the third link. I choose the picture of the long stair case with paintings on each step. The definition that applies to this piece of art is, "Art is long, and time is fleeting." Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, poet. I think this definition fits this art work because the stair case is very long and the art carries up the whole stair case. When I look at the art piece I see a mixture of the ocean and the sky. I think the purpose behind the artwork is just to show how art work can be very fun creative.
3. The third artwork I chose was again from the third link. I chose the picture of the cigarette in the ground with the old man and women figures observing it. "Art is a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand." Pablo Picasso. This applies to the art work because usually people do not stand and observe a cigarette. When I look at this piece of art I think that it is sad that people just through their cigarettes anywhere. What I think the purpose behind the artist piece of artwork is that leaving cigarettes around like that makes the world look dirty, and the message for society is a wakeup call.

The mural rendering of Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night can be understood through Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's definition: "Art is long and time is fleeting." Though Van Gogh is long pssed his work is still around, reproduced and recognized around the world. When I look at this mural I see not only beauty itself, but also a symbol of beauty. It reminds me of how each of us sees the world differently. I think the artist's intention in putting this famous work of art on the side of a building is to encourage onlookers. What he is trying to communicate is a sense of wonder that Van Gogh's work represents. The artist says that Van Gogh looked at things differently and so should you.

The painting of the man powerwashing the cave drawings is an example of Leonardo Da Vinci's satement that, "Art is the Queen of all sciences communicating knowledge to all generations of the world." I see a comment on how graffiti is usually viewed: as vandalism. It has always been man's nature to draw on walls and now people want to wash it away because they don't like the way it looks. The artist wants this work to remind observers that human's are programed to express themselves on matters they find interesting. While the caveman thought those horses were stimulating, the artist finds close minded people interesting.

The way that, "Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible," (Paul Klee) is demonstrated in the painting of a man with skyscraper teeth eating the tree that looks like broccoli. I see a startling metaphor for what is happening to the enviornment. The artist's message is that civilization is destroying nature, that humanity is going against what is natural.

1) The first piece I chose is a man with teeth that are buildings and he is eating a tree. 2) the artist definition that describes this well is "Art is a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand." Pablo Picasso 3) I think this artist made this to show what we are doing to the environment. 4) the purpose is to show that building these buildings requires looking trees.

The second art piece I chose was 1) another one with no artist name and it had pianos as stairs. 2) The definition that I thought described this well was "Art is long, and time is fleeting." Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, poet. 3) I think they made this to just escape reality and just express what is apart of their life. 4) The purpose is to express what one loves.

The final piece I chose was 1)one with no artist but it says to follow your dreams then on top really big it says CANCELED. 2) The definition to describe this art piece is "Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible." Paul Klee, artist 3) I think the artist made this to show that there are going to be let downs when you want to do something n your life. 4) The purpose is to prove that people will try to discourage you, but behind it all, you should really still follow your dreams.

Unknown said...

The first piece I chose was 1. That says follow your dreams but has no artist and says canceled on top 2.the sedition to describe this piece is art doesn't reproduce what is visible. 3. The author wanted to show in my option that in life it's always gonna be hard and have problems in it. 4. The purpose is to follow your dreams and never give up.

The second art piece I chose to do was the pianos and stairs one with no artist again. 2. The deftition that fits this the best is art has no feeling 3. The artist wanted to show what life is about and how it's gonna be the same sometimes. 4. The purpose is to follow what u like about life and don't give up.

The last one I chose was some guy with big white teeth eating a tree which I found to be weird. 2. Art is a lie that makes us discorver the truth-Pablo Picasso this deftition fits it the best. 3. I found this piece describing the pollution in this world and how humans are hurting it by cutting down all these tress. 4. The purpose is to show when you make buildings it requires u to cut down trees and by that your hurting the environment.

The first one I chose was julien beever's "anamorphic" the definition I though applied the most was "art does not reproduce what is visible, it reproduces what is not". -Paul Klee. This makes sense because you can not see what might be awaiting underneath your feet. I see people walking on the streets and not knowing a whole nother world that's just below them. The message for society is we should open our eyes to the unseen world very close to us.

The second piece I chose was by Edgar muller it is untitled but features a man caring a hart with knifes in it while stepping on the heart of so sing else. The definition I chose for the this one is "art is the signature of civilizations" this makes sense because our civilization is a lot about loving people and being loved yourself. I see a hurt man hurting other people's hearts because he has had his hurt as well. The message for society is dont hurt people's hearts just because you have had yours hurt.

The third piece I chose is Eduardo Releros street painting of the idle tower he did in brazil. The artist definition I feel best fits this work is "art is long and time is fleeting" -Henry Longfellow. I think this means if you take the time to make good artwork time doesn't Matt because it will last forever. I see the if,e tower as a symbol of pride in other countries and pride in people all around the world as a whole. The message for society is to spread your pride for your country but also share the cultures as well.

Follow Your Dreams (Cancelled)
1: George Braque. This piece of art DOES disturb the viewer, by being quite negative.
2: This piece of art insinuates that people can no longer follow your dreams.
3: The message here is bleak; there is no hope. You will never realize your dreams, because they've been cancelled

Bikes on the Building Corner (I don't know, seems like a good description)
1: Twyla Tharp. The viewer is allowed to leave the urban sprawl momentarily to see nature.
2: I see a stark contrast between nature and industry.
3: The message here is to not forget the beauty of nature; even if it isn't present in a literal sense, it's always there.

Building Eating a Tree (these pieces of art are weird...)
1: Da Vinci. This piece of art conveys the knowledge of industrialization to the masses.
2: This is a picture of a man with buildings as teeth eating a tree.
3: I think this is clearly showing how urban sprawl has destroyed nature, as symbolized by the buildings as teeth.

1. The first piece is the small painting of Spiderman on the building wall. Paul Klee's definition applies to this piece, which is "Art doesn't reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible." This applies because the crack in the wall is what this piece is based around, which is clearly visible but often overlooked. Attaching Spiderman to the crack made me notice it by making it more than a crack and transforming it into a web that he uses to swing on. The artist cleverly uses something what at first was a blemish on the building and by simply taking a different perspective altered it into a piece of art.
2. The second piece I chose was the street art of the people floating down a river on a raft approaching a waterfall, done with chalk on the pavement. The definition that can be applied is Twyla Tharp's, which is "Art is the only way to run away without leaving home." This applies because it takes an ordinary city street and transforms it into a roaring current that leads to a massive waterfall, neither of which are ordinarily found in cities. I like this piece a lot because of the depth the artist created with the waterfall, making it appear that at any moment the people could go plummeting down it, and illusion that is not easy to accomplish in the surrounding environment of the city. I'd say the message is that what you see is not always what you should believe, as the entire piece is based upon the illusion it creates in the observer's mind.
3. The third piece I chose is the art of the man who's skin is deteriorating in a rainbow of hues and which gives the illusion that the trees in the background are growing out of him. The definition that most closely suits this piece is Giacomo Puccini's, which is "Art is a kind of illness". Immediately when I saw this piece I thought psychedelic, this piece is the product of another state of mind that the artist was experiencing, not literally an illness but a feeling that overtook him an he expressed in this piece. I see this man dying and decaying, with the contrast lying in the color scheme as rainbow, which isn't associated with dying. I think the artist might have been trying to say that we are all a part of the earth when we die as trees too grow out of us as we're buried beneath the earth.

The first art piece that caught my eye is the one by Jonna Pohjalainen where the tree trunks look like colored pencils. The definition that applies to this art is Damien Hirst's which says, "Art is childish and childlike." It applies because art brings out the imagination in people which can be seen as very childish. When I look at the art I see a world of possibilities. If yo can color with a tree you can fly with a pig. It tells me anything is possible. I think the artist was trying to bring out their inner child because like me they probably used colored pencils when they were a kid.

The second piece of art that caught my eye was the street art that had all the people stuck within the concrete called Cocito. The artist definition that fits this piece best is by Georges Braque which says, "Art is meant to disturb. Science reassures" the art is very disturbing which is the point. When I look at the piece I see a civilization that is trapped. I think the artist made this to show how society traps people anyway they can. Even if by concrete.

The last art piece is by Eduardo Relero that looks to be an advertisement for the Motorola Razr 2. The artist definition that applies is by Ad Reinhardt which says, "Art is art. Everything else is everything else." This applies because its saying advertisements that don't have art is just another everything category passing by but art catches the eye. When I look at this art I see a very appealing advertisement. It says that this new technology is ground breaking, literally. I believe the artist had the same reasoning that i did when looking at it for why he created this piece.

The Rise of the Fall by Miha Artnak (http://www.streetartutopia.com/?attachment_id=8122) is simply a peek into the world outside of the bustling city life. Paul Klee said, "Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible." I feel that this small piece of art on the corner of a building does exactly that. In the city, where life tends to be fast-paced and routine, this art makes visible the green world outside of the city's numerous shades of gray and concrete. When I look at this art, I remember a myth of sorts I learned watching a Japanese cartoon. The concept was that people had two eyelids: one that was physical, and the other, a spiritual eyelid. And while this art doesn't exactly show you some spiritual world, it does peel the layer of the city back showing perhaps the green that used to exist there or the green that exists out of sight that we know is there but not affecting us. So then I see the message as an abstract way to say "stop and smell the roses."

The next piece that captured my interest (among the hundreds of others that caught my eye) is one of David Walker's street art (http://www.streetartutopia.com/?attachment_id=8553). It is a colorful display of a girl, her head tilted towards the sidewalk and her eyes shut while her wild hair frames her face. And I would say the words that capture what this artwork might represent are best said by Friedrich Nietzsche: "Art is essentially the affirmation, the blessing, and the deification of existence." The girl's face is made bigger than life and we see a base pale blue skin tone with depth created by the myriad of bright colors and the wispy rainbow of hair about her face. It seems to capture multiple emotions from sadness to happiness, love to loneliness, and to us it would be an affirmation of human emotion, that whatever I might feel has already been felt by others and are still being felt by others. And I think it is a blessing, because its viewers can relate. The little heart in the corner seems something small, but could mean so much, like a small blessing to someone that they are loved and the yellow a small way of extending friendship and happiness. And so the message I think is somewhere within what I've said, but I'm not exactly sure how or where to pinpoint it.

The last piece I found is one by Banksy (http://www.streetartutopia.com/?p=143). It is an image of a black woman taking a smoke break from picking grains. The art reminds me of the kind of freedom Toni Morrison describes in Beloved. Andy Warhol's definition of art works with this piece: "Art is what you can get away with." In times of slavery, something like this wouldn't have been possible. Nor would cutting the actual canvas, leaving a hole and pasting a smoking black woman sitting on the edge have even been thought of. Art changes and becomes more all-encompassing of what things can be considered as art. So I see this as something that we could get away with in the times we live. When I look at the art, I see rebellion and relaxation. Not only is it a rebellion against slavery or an escape from the routine of life but it also changes how art is viewed making the frame and wall behind it as part of the art. I think it's purpose is to push the envelope a bit. Maybe it is a reminder of not so long ago slavery was still a real thing and ties it into modern times. It is hard to say not knowing when this was made or who the artist is, but these are my guesses. The message here is lost to me. Perhaps it is art for the sake of art.

Piece One: Grass (Layers Series) - Miha Artnak http://www.streetartutopia.com/?attachment_id=8122
1) This piece is a small square of a building. On that corner, a turning page is painted. Behind that turned corner is a picture of a grassy field.
2) The definition that applies to this work is one given by Paul Klee: "Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible." This definition applies because this artworks is making visible a problem in the industrial age. It is bringing the problem out into the open.
3) When I see the peeled back wall, I see the field that existed before the city was built. I see the natural area that the city once was, before buildings, sewage, and pollution destroyed the nature.
4) The purpose behind this artist's work is to get people to think about what we've sacrificed in order to live the lifestyle we do now. She is showing what could be there instead of a decrepit concrete wall. The piece gets us to think about the nature that should be present but is not. Also, it shows how much more beautiful the field is than the gray city.

Piece Two: http://www.streetartutopia.com/?attachment_id=8106 (Author and Title Unknown - Maybe author is BLU)
1) This artwork shows a man with skyscrapers for teeth eating a tree.
2) The definition that applies to this work is given by Pablo Picasso: "Art is a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand." It applies because the situation pictured is fictional and exaggerated, but it nevertheless reveals a truth of society
3) The first time I glanced at this painting it looked like a man eating broccoli. However, upon closer inspection, I see what is listed in part one. Furthermore, one of the major factors that I notice is the lack of color other than that of the tree (I think that the blue was on the building before the artist began painting). To me, this represents the stagnant and depressing mood of the city juxtaposed with the vibrant aspect of nature. This contrast is what caught my attention.
4) The author of this work is sending a similar message to Miha Artnak from the previous work. However, instead of showing what could exist if the city were gone, the art work shows how cities are actively destroying green areas. The painter likely noticed that, with each city and shopping complex built, more and more trees are destroyed.

Piece Three: http://www.streetartutopia.com/?p=89
1) This work shows a wall covered in cave drawings. However, in the foreground, a man with a power washer is spraying off all of these ancient drawings. The bottom left of the painting is bare wall, showing that the man is washing away the drawings on the wall.
2) Paul Klee's definition fits this work as well: "Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible." It applies because it makes visible a problem that not many people think about. It shows the problem of people destroying ancient landmarks in favor of building, again, cities and developing the land.
3) What caught my eye first was the fact that the drawings on the wall looked like cave drawings, and then when I scrolled down the piece became even more interesting. For me, I see the contrast between the delicate, ancient finger paintings and the neon orange worker with a power washer. Using such a powerful machine to destroy something more delicate is what speaks the loudest to me.
4) What the author is trying to show is that we disrespect ancient treasures. They are often stolen and abused in order to be sold on the black market and make money. The modern world, obsessed with material things, is willing to destroy a piece of history in order to make their share in the pot a little larger. We are, in effect, wiping out our history, something that the artist illustrated by showing a man completely erasing the ancient cave drawings.

The first piece I picked is from the Street Art Utopia. 1. It has no name, it's the brick wall with the corner being made out of Lego bricks. 2. Here I thought Damien Hirst's definition applied best. It just seems goofy and fun more than anything else. 3. I see childlike innocence and curiosity bleeding back into the cold and calculated reality. 4. I think the artist just made it to make people smile when they pass it in their day to day life. What would you do if you saw a Lego brick wall?

The 2nd is also from street art utopia. 1. It has no name, it is the giant mouth in the sidewalk being fed a pill. 2. Paul Gauguin's quote applies well. The message that recycling is important has always been told, but there are still those who don't listen. Maybe bold and creative street art is the revolution needed to finally seal the deal. 3. I see it telling a simple message; recycle, be green, and the Earth will feel better. 4. I think the purpose/message is to break down environmentalism to its most simple terms. No charts or graphs, just a creative visual metaphor.

The third picture is from Street Art Utopia. 1. It is a child offering a lollipop to a hobo, only to get dragged away by their mother. 2. Pablo Picasso's quote works here. While the piece of art is highly simplified compared to most interactions with the homeless, its message is still true and important. 3. I see the willingness to help being squandered by the norms of society. 4. I think it was made to show that society is full of people who are willing to help and make a difference, we just need to let them.

1) The first one I chose does not have a name, it is on of the 3d ones where the girl is riding her bike over the piece of wood. the definition I chose that fits this is that art is childish and childlike. I chose this because I think this art piece has no purpose and that there is no message to society. It is just for fun.
2) The second one I chose is another unnamed 3d street art where the man is making the Eiffel tower out of chalk. That's all I see when I look at it and I don't think it holds a purpose either. It's message could be like go to Paris or something but I think it is just there to be there. Its definition could be that art is what you can get away with, because I wouldn't want that picture on my street.
3) The third one I picked is called Giant and it is a huge picture of a man falling into a hole in the earth. The definition that fits this one is that art is a kind of illness. This fits it because whoever put this in public must have been ill. I really have no idea what the purpose of this art is but the message to society could be that the humans are being terrible people and are going to ruin the earth and all fall into a giant hole.

The first piece that I chose is Julien Beever's "Anamorphic" pavement drawing. This 3D street art best fits with the quote, "Art does not reproduce what is visible, it makes things visible." When I look at this piece it is as if there is actually a giant gaping hole in the middle of a city street full of lava and water. I think that through this extremely realistic vision, the artist was trying to say "don't let the 2 dimensional things limit you". He was able to make a plain brick road look bottomless.

The second is Kurt Wenner's "Perseus". The quote that fits this piece is "Art is the queen of all sciences communicating knowledge to all the generations of the world." When I look at this piece I see the beauty in Greek mythology as they saw it as it was being created. I think that through his artwork, Wenner is trying to show tho generation how beautiful history is and why it should always be preserved and remembered.

The third is Jonna Pohjalainen's pencils carved out of tree trunks. The quote that best fits this piece is "Art is essentially the affirmation, the blessing, and the deification of existence." I see in this piece how creativity and inspiration can come from anywhere and anything as long as you're looking for it. I think that her message through this artwork is that new life is always possible, even in death. She took these dead fallen trees and gave them new life through her artwork.

The first art piece is Reflections by Kurt Wenner. Art is the signature of civilizations said by jean Sibelius. This definition works because Our reflection may not be what we want them to be. So an artist might use their art work to change their reflection. when I look at the piece I see four people in rich clothing looking it to the water and seeing people in peasant cloths. The purpose is that not everyone see who they want in their reflection. the message is that you can not judge people for what they look like.
Twyla Tharp says that art is the only way to run away without leaving home. The next art work is from street art utopia. It is the one where a guy is holding a paint brush and on the wall is follow your dreams with red cancelled on it. I believe that Twyla's definition fits this picture because art is a way for people to express there dreams and kind of of let their minds go to different places. I see a man who looks upset for cancelling people dreams. The purpose is to show people that someone doesn't want you to follow your dreams, they are going to try to hold you back. the message is that you follow your dreams know matter what or who gets in your way.
my last art piece is a stained glass window made of graffiti. Paul Gauguin says that Art is either plagiarism or revolution. I see a boy sitting next to a stained glass window with a paint bucket and brush next to him. with window is created by graffiti and the boy is praying next to it. this definition works because it takes a stained glass window which is old art and revolutionizes it. I think the purpose is that every kind of art work is beautiful and has meaning. the message is that no matter what or where the art is, its still beautiful and has a meaning for someone.

Art piece 1.

1. No name but it is a picture of a decorated staircase that looks like the keys of a piano. (Street Art in Valparaiso, Chile Jean-Baptiste)

Picture: http://www.streetartutopia.com/?p=7411

2. "Art is the only way to run away without leaving home."
Twyla Tharp, choreographer. I chose this quote because I imagine the staircase to be a piano keyboard and a person should walk or run up or down the keyboard but that person never leaves the place.

3. I see the vertical keys of a piano when I look at the picture.

4. I believe the purpose of this picture is to inspire and bring about each person's creativity in this world.

Art piece 2.

1. Batman and Robin.

Picture:http://www.streetartutopia.com/?p=8592

2. "Art is childish and childlike."
Damien Hirst, artist; I chose this quote because when I think of Batman and Robin, I think of my childhood cartoons of Batman and Robin.

3. I see a picture of black, sort of stick figures of Batman and Robin surrounded inside a red circle.

4. I believe the purpose of this artwork is to be humorous and funny. The message is to give a laugh.

Art piece 3.

1. Yarn Bombing - By B-Arbeiten

Picture:http://www.streetartutopia.com/?p=7796

2. "Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible."
Paul Klee, artist, I chose this quote because this quote, in my opinion, captures the beauty of art hence art makes things visible. For example, the picture I chose is a tree but the artwork makes and shows the tree's true beauty.

3. I see a decorated, colorful tree covered in colorful yarn.

4. I believe the purpose of this artwork is to inspire creativity and colorfulness in a person's life. The message is to be creative and take risks.

1. The first piece of art I choose was from the third link. I picked the picture of the long stair case with paintings on every step. The definition for this is "Art is long, and time is fleeting." Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. I think this definition works because the stair case is long and the art goes up the whole stair case. From this artwork I think of nature and just the world itself. It explains life through the picture.
2.The second piece of art I chose was from the picture of LOVE written on the wall in sign language. I liked this one a lot. LOVE is written in black and in the background is gray wall with a bit of blue too. I think that the picture is saying how love is worldwide and everyone needs to contribute to being a better person. If everyone in the world could get along, the world would be a better place.
3. The third piece of art I chose was the one where the tree trunks look like colored pencils by Jonna Pohjalainen. The definition is from Damien Hirst, "Art is childish and childlike." I think this fits the best because art can bring out the kid in everyone. Kids have a wide imagination, and that is what is important with art.

1. The first piece of artwork I picked was the waterfall in the 3D street drawings. When I look at this I see a boat with a Canadian flag and the water turning into a waterfall. I think the purpose behind this art is to show something that had happened in Canada. That is what I think the artist was trying to portray in this piece of art.
2. The second one I chose is an unnamed 3D street art where the man is making the Eiffel tower out of chalk. It's message could be like go to Paris, it has a lot to offer. Its definition could be that art is an escape.
3. The third piece of art I chose was from the picture of LOVE written out on a wall in sign language. I chose this because I liked it. I think it is trying to send the message that we should love one another and treat everyone the way you would want to be treated.

1. The first piece that I chose was the one with the waterfall in the street drawings. I look at the art and see a boat and a waterfall. I think the prupose behind this art piece is to show a struggle with someone and facing a type of roadblock in life.

2. The second piece that I chose was the last piece with the tree trunks that look like pencils. I think the artist is trying to portray that people will always be young and kids at heart.

3. The third piece I chose was the picture of LOVE written out on a wall in sign langauge. I chose this because I liked the way it looked. Its simple and gets to the point. I think it is trying to send the message that love conquers all and that we take love for granted.

1.) I choose is called Reflections by Hurt Wenner .The art shows the peoples true color, ways and shape beacause of their reflection. This art piece shows that people can be true to how they are and society should be true back to them as we are all one.

2.) The street art utopia piece where the cut down trees are made out to look like they are colored pencils. the definition, "Art is childish and childlike." is great for this. The art piece is childish and everyone can connect to it. Children are the ones coloring so the art piece is meant to tell society to not always be serious and to be kidish and fun.

3.) i choose is the 3D street drawing with the girl riding her bike over a gaping hole in the street by thin board to cross over on. "Art is meant to disturb. Science reassures." The picture is something that would never happen and people realize that. The artwork has a feeling of caution and this may tell people/groups to not be so shy and to themselves and to be brave, speak up as one, not die as a group.

One of the three art works that i enjoyed and found fascinating was one by Kurt Wenner. This artwork allowed you to see that she was running away but only from fear. The quote that was presented by Twyla Tharp. It says "Art is the only way to run away without leaving home." This means that you cant leave home no matter what but you can escape from everything by using art.

The second piece of art work that was interesting was the one that doesn't have a title but it has a man almost looks like a statue eating a tree and his teeth were those of buildings. I think that the quote that goes with this is"Art is the Queen of all sciences communicating knowledge to all the generations of the world" by Leonardo da Vinci. I think that they are putting the message of we are taking so much land or consuming so much land that we cant keep up. Also that we are using it for buildings and housing areas.

The third piece of art is one called Hipster Trap. This can be defined by "While I thought that I was learning how to live, I have been learning how to die." This speaks it perfectly due to the way society is now a days. We are so consumed by looks and everything else that we dont see the big picture. I think the artist was trying to show how trying to fit in society is a tease and how we can sometimes be trapped into fitting in.

1. Neptune by Kurt Wenner
2. "Art is a bang/blast."
Tarō Okamoto, abstract artist
3. When i look into the art piece I see an explosion of vivid colors and extreme details. I also see the anger of a god and the wrath that comes with it.
4. I believe the purpose behind this piece of art was to take anger an rage and give it a visual representation through the use of a Greek God who are said in history to be some of the most powerful beings ever. So to use a Greek God to represent anger shows the severity and harshness of that anger.
1. Office Stress by Kurt Wenner
2. Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible."
Paul Klee, artist
3. What I see when i look at the piece of art is my mother. My mom works almost 65 hours a week and every single day comes home very tense and stress so when i see the faces of the people in the drawing it reminds me of her.
4. I believe the purpose of this artwork is to inform people who work endless hours a week that there is much more in this world than just work and you need to make time for the things that really matter like family and not revolve your whole life around your job.
1. The last piece of artwork i chose is a picture of a giant mouth that appears to be coming out of the ground and it has a pill near it that has a recycling symbol on it.
2. "Art is a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand."
Pablo Picasso
3. What i see when i look at the artwork is a solution to a problem. I see it as an attempt to educate the world about the way we live.
4. The purpose behind this artwork is to tell society that we are sucking the life out of the planet we live on and we are giving nothing back to it. It says that we need to make a change and do things like recycling in order to give back to the planet that gives us everything.

the first piece is called Smeagol. The definition that fits best is Art is what you can get away with said by Andy Warhol. I see my favorite movie painted on a big wall. I don't think there is a purpose behind this artwork besides them showing how much they loved the movies and books.

The second piece is are painting of a mouth eating a tree and the teeth are city buildings. The art of life is not controlling what happens to us, but using what happens to us said by Gloria Steinem fits this the best. I see the city eating or destroying the forests and trees. The purpose behind this is saying that we build to much over nature.

The third piece of art is a mouth in the ground taking a pill with a recycle sign on it. I see it meaning to recycle to help the earth like a pill can help people get better. The purpose of this is to recycle and stop harming the environment.

Pablo Picasso. i think this peice makes you really look at the art and your able to see what the piece has to really offer.. i feel like there is something that is missing or being untold almost lying to themselves.

The Third peice i chose was "Art is autobiographical; the pearl is the oyster's autobiography."
Federico Fellini, director. I feel art can bring many imaginations and creativity and has so many areas to offer. Art can bring happiness and a great hobby!

The first piece I chose was a tree that has many different bands of color wrapping around it all the way up to the top of it. The definition that I believe applies to this is Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's, which states that "Art is long, and time is fleeting". This applies here because the art being on a tree guarantees that the art will last for the life of the tree, instead of just for a moment when you see it. I see a bit of rebellion, as most artwork isn't put on trees. I think the message to society here is to be different, because being different can be beautiful.

The second piece I chose is called Ceres' Banquet by Kurt Wenner. The definition that best describes this piece is "Art is a kind of illness", as said by Giacomo Puccini. This applies here because I feel the art piece is a little disturbing and sick, as all of the creatures are half human, half beast, and they're making a mess. I see a critique of Greek or Roman myth and legend (from the name and the characters in the picture I can tell it has to do with mythology). I think the message here is that you need to remember the past.

The third piece that I chose was a little girl's face completely covering the side of a building. I think Andy Warhol's definition of "Art is what you can get away with" best fits this artwork because he just got away with putting a face on a BUILDING!!! When I look at this artwork I see a face (obviously) but a message saying, "Hey, I got away with it!". I don't think that what the artist is really trying to say here, though. I think he's trying to bring to attention the importance of children (and perhaps bringing homeless children to attention as well).

1.) The piece of art I picked was Street Art by David Walker. It's a girl with all the types of color in her face, and hair.

2.)I chose what Elbert Hubbard said about art. "Art is not a thing; it is a way." This makes sense to me because art is a way to show your emotions, feelings, and express yourself and other things in life.

3.) When I look at David Walker's piece is sadness. This art work makes me think that the girl is sad and needs someone to talk or be there for her because she is maybe lonely and needs love. I see the heart and the color shows me that there is lots of emotions going on in this piece. The colors are what make the art work so amazing to look at.

4.) I think every artists reason of their art work is to show how they are feeling. Their emotions and just express everything. Artists could be have a bad day and paint or draw something very dark and mysterious. Then if they are having a good day they could paint something happy, bright, and joyful.

Painting One
1.)The painting with the stone tower that was built out of the whole in the pavement. (http://www.aasarchitecture.com/2012/10/3D-street-artists.html)
2.)"art is meant to disturb, science reassures."
3.) I see a tower being built out of a hole in the ground.
4.)It is showing a tower being built.

Painting Two
1.)The piece of paper on a wall that said LOVE on it and had pull tabs that could be removed. (http://www.streetartutopia.com/?p=8241)
2.) "Art s much less important than life, but what a poor life without it."
3.)I saw a piece of artwork suggesting the idea of sharing and giving out love.
4.)The purpose of the piece of artwork is to suggest that the world needs more love involved in it life.

Painting Three

4.) The artwork is suggesting that moving up in life requires art and music.

The first piece I choose is the second 3D piece. It is of a street that looks like the Earth is crumbling from under the feet of the walkers. The author, Julien Beever, says that he paints these pieces of art out of curiosity and love for the art. When I look at his piece, I see destruction. the outsides of the piece look as if the ground has broken away and left gaping holes to hell. However, in the middle of the street, the painting looks like it has cleared up and is peaceful.

The second piece I choose is The Rise of the Fall by Miha Artnak, This piece has no information about the author but I enjoy this piece. I think this piece shows how beautiful everyday life is but we as a society don't realize it. This piece shows a corner of a building being pulled back to reveal a beautiful scene for the country.

The third piece I choose is Ghetto by Kurt Wenner. Wenner quit his pursuit in NASA to pursue painting. He used inspiration from the earliest painters. The author here used a very broken down and ugly surrounding to create something beautiful inside it.

The first piece i chose was the waterfall sidewalk drawing by Julien Beever. I think Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's quote "Art is long, and time is fleeting." makes sense because when I look at the piece I see the waterfall represent time flowing away from us. That is what I feel the artist is trying to portray.

The second piece I chose was the piece by Edgar Müller of the man looking at the sculpture of himself. The quote I see as fitting to this piece would be "Art is autobiographical; the pearl is the oyster's autobiography." The reason I say this is because as the man looks at the sculpture, he is seeing himself. I think this piece is mean to comment on the issue of self reflection.

The third piece I chose was the piece on the third link which was a mural which said "follow your dreams" and "canceled" over it. I think the quote that represents this piece is "Art is a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand." When I look at this piece I see it as being censored and prevented from doing the things you want. I feel that the artist is commenting on how restrictive society can be and how it can prevent us from following our dreams and doing what we want to do.

c)see here a beautiful scene drawn on an average neighborhood sidewalk
d)think the purpose here is to brighten peoples day, and when they get to walk on this I think it is meant to transport them to a place more beautiful.

3)
a)the gratified church window with the kid praying underneath it with a paint can
b)”art is childish and childlike”
c)when I look at this I see an innocent kid who has probably committed the crime of painting this window even though his intentions are nothing malicious.
d)i believe the message this painting is sending is that religion should be seen through a child's eyes and does not have to be a stereotype, as long as you have faith that's all you need to start.

The first piece that stood out to me was in street utopia. 1. it was the wall that said 'follow your dreams' with 'cancelled' covering it. 2. Picasso's definition of 'a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand' best displays this. 3. I see a visualization of the cruelty of this world. It reminds me of the sad fact that no matter what someone thinks, there will be someone else, tearing them down, making the, feel inferior, and finally submitting to their opinion and giving up something they truly wanted to do. 4. i feel that the message is that things like this are happening. People give up to easily on what they love, either because of other people, or out of sheer laziness and not wanting to do the work.

My second choice of artwork (from 3D street art) 1. is the one with the man with the wheelbarrow coming up from the street. 2. The best definition that fits that is 'Art is the signature of civilizations.' (Sibelius) 3. This artwork reminds me that the true heart of the city lies underneath, in its foundation, much like with people. Strong foundations are the root of everything (or at least should be). With out them, everything above it would just crumble and wither away. 4. I think the message is to remember your roots, your foundation. The outside of a city is beautiful, but the real beauty is what makes it work.

My final selection also comes from Street art utopia. 1. It's the one where the Legos complete the end of the divide (above the one of the hopscotch pic). 2. the best definition for this is Damien Hirst's: 'Art is childish and childlike.' 3. It reminded me that there is still room for childish humor in art. Who else but someone with a child's imagination would think to use such a simplistic method to fix a small problem? 4. I think the message is that there may be some immature images/suggestions in art, but it is part of that childlike thinking that makes us appreciate it.

1. The first piece that I chose was from street art utopia, and does not have a title, but can be described as a line of people move up a set of large stairs. The definition that fits best is the one by Damian Hirst, who said "Art is childish and childlike." The people in this piece of art act like children, willing to explore and act like a child would when exploring something new. When I look at this painting I see people going to explore something as simple as steps, that we see everyday. The artist's message in this art is to look in things in a different perspective than what they usually are.

2. The second piece is the first piece on the first link, with the 3D art of hole in the street with a waterfall in it. The definition that fits this one is "Art is the only way to run away without leaving home." said by Twyla Tharp. An entire new world is revealed within the one street, and the people on that street never have to leave to enter into that world. I see that the new world within the street a completely different environment than what is around it, providing an escape away from normal life. The artist's purpose for this was to provide a new world on that street, a little vacation into a new world.

3. The third piece also does not have a name, but was on street art utopia and is a wall of a man wearing two watches that are chained together. The definition that fits this is "Art is a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand." by Pablo Picasso This piece of art is an exaggeration of how people are bound by time, and is a lie in which people are not really bound by time like this man is, but this painting makes us realize the truth of the artist's message. When I look at this painting I see a man chained by his time obligations, and not free to do anything else, which I believe is also the artist's message: that we are to bound up by time and it limits us in what we are able to do.

First Painting
1] I chose the first painting on http://www.aasarchitecture.com/2012/10/3D-street-artists.html because I feel like it shows the interaction concept of street art that makes it more "a way" than "a thing"
2] "Art is not a thing; it is a way." Elbert Hubbard, artist
3] The painting cuts a chunk out of the sidewalk to make it seem like the ground has fallen away in that spot.
4] The message behind this piece is that life is an adventure with massive holes in the ground everywhere even if they are only imaginary.

Second Painting
1] "Ghetto" on http://kurtwenner.com/gallery/street_gallery/pages/10_Ghetto.htm in the second painting I chose. It shows a ghetto that is a long past part of history. The art remains to depict a time that was fleeting.
2] "Art is long, and time is fleeting." Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, poet.
3] The ghetto in the street artwork is used to show poverty crowding about in cardboard boxes where cripples and old hags wallow in the mire.
4] In the painting, the ground opens up to reveal a horrid world. This is meant to accuse the audience of passing by all of the poverty that is "hiding underground" in a sense. The noble youth in the foreground evokes an idea of undue circumstances for a man who could be so much more.

Third Painting
1] I chose this photo of a man lying on the sky looking down http://www.streetartutopia.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/street-art-By-The-Miha-Artnak-2.jpeg to show how Art can disturb the world and flip perspective up-side-down while "science reassures"
2] "Art is meant to disturb. Science reassures." Georges Braque, painter
3] The photo show a man lying on what is really the sidewalk but appears to be a night sky over a city.
4] The point of the artwork is to celebrate human ingenuity. A man who would be capable of floating on the very top of the sky would have to be superhuman however, with a little bit of paint or chalk, he can master this feat while almost sleeping.

The first piece I chose was the one from Street Art Utopia with the painting of the women working in the field.
When I look at this piece, I see rebellion, and curiosity. I get the rebellion-feel from the woman refusing to conform along with the other women, and I get the curiosity-feel from the same woman due to her rebellion. To me, she questions why she has to do work in the fields and rebels by not doing the work – by “removing herself from the picture.”
I believe the message is to question why people do the things they do. Ask questions, and get answers.

The second piece I chose was also from Street Art Utopia. This one is the chalk art on the street with the Lego men replicating the famous warriors of ancient China.
When I see this piece, I see history – and I see it being fun. I know that when I was learning history, I hated it. And I think that’s one of the main things the artist wanted to get across to the viewers – that feeling that history can be fun.

This third piece, again from Street Art Utopia, was probably my favorite of them all. The third one I chose is the artwork on the wall of the two young boys drawing on the walls looking like teenagers these days.
When I look at this piece, I see troubled youth. Everyone knows that children aren’t supposed to draw on the walls, and by drawing the kids drawing on the walls, it is relating the young kids to the teenagers who probably made the art. Usually, when kids do something wrong, it is because they are trying to express themselves, and when teenagers act out in a major way, it is usually because of something from their childhood. In other words, the kids in the picture are trying to express themselves, just as the people who made the artwork on the actual wall.
I think the message to society is that teenagers are just big kids that are placed with big responsibilities when all they want to do is have fun and express themselves.

The first piece I selected was Neptune by Kurt Wenner 2) The definition I selected was "Art is the Queen of all sciences communicating knowledge to all the generations of the world."
Leonardo da Vinci
3) This artist painted this thinking of Neptune, king of the sea. He painted what he though Neptune was, he made it his own and passed the knowledge of Greek mythology to an even younger generation.
4) The purpose and message is that everyone goes through trouble at some point. In the painting the person can see that Neptune is enduring a great deal of pain, but he keeps pushing on.

The second piece of art that I selected is the one that looks like the Eiffel Tower by Edgar Muller
2)"Art is the signature of civilizations."
Jean Sibelius, composer
3) I think that the artist was trying to illustrate hard work within his piece. I see what the structure started as, and finished with.
4) The message is that everything great starts as nothing, and only through hard work can one truly reach that something great.

The final piece I selected was Last Judgement by Kurt Wenner
2) "Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible."
Paul Klee, artist
3) The artist hits this definition right on the head. He takes something invisible (judgement day) and makes it visible to the people. It is the perfect spot for the painting to (right in front of the church). This perfectly illustrates some of the strongest beliefs in the Christian religion.
4) I think the message is to stay strong to your faith, believe in what you want to, but be ready come judgement day.

1) The first piece I chose was the Mosaic in San Fransisco. The quote that I thought defined this art well was "Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible." When I look at these stairs, I see an ocean full of life. I believe the message behing this piece is that it is a big world out there and you never know what you are going to run into next.

2) The second piece I chose was Street Art Love. The quote that defines this one is "Art is a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand." When I look at this piece I see love being spoken wthout words to the world. I believe that the artist here is trying to spread love around the world to help make the difference that they can.

3) the final piece o chose is the Love - Take All You Need. The definition that applies to this one is "Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible." This picture shows a paper with little tear off tabs that say love and the flier for it says to take all the love you need. This artist is also trying to spread love and to also show how everybody has somebody put there who loves them.

1. The first piece I chose was the piece in which it appears that a man has built a model of the eiffel tower from the street.
2. This piece identifies with Twyla Tharp's quote, saying, "Art is the only way to run away without leaving home."
3. When I see this piece, I see an artist's depiction of how people used their resources to gain one grand item of beauty, and then shared this beauty to the world.
4. I believe that this artist is saying that in order to build one piece of beautiful art, they must use another thing to make it happen.

1. The second piece I chose is titled "Babel", which appears to be an infinitely deep tower. This piece of are reminded me of Purgatory from Dante Alighieri's :The Divine Comedy".
2. I believe this piece matches best with Jean Sibelius's quote, stating, "Art is the signature of civilizations."
3. When I see this piece of art, I see two things. The first is a depiction of Purgatory from "The Divine Comedy", and the second is the top of the mythical Tower of Babel.
4. I believe the artist was trying to tell us that we are fortunate to be nearly living as the gods the people of old strived to be like.

1. The third selection I made was of the side of a staircase having characteristics resembling a piano.
2. This piece fits best with Andy Warhol's quote, saying "Art is what you can get away with."
3. I see a person's depiction of the way most of society sees music - something that can just be walked on.
4. I believe the artist is attempting to show people how they think of something so wonderful and that music is, no matter what they think, a type of art, too.

1. The first peice of art would have to be Mosaic in San Francisco "- By Aileen Barr and Colette Crutcher, The beautiful mosaic tiled steps of 16th Avenue & Moraga Street. Artists Aileen Barr and Colette Crutcher created the mosaic design, a colorful, flowing, sea-to-sky theme, with fish near the foot of the steps and birds, leaves and stars near the top. The mosaic consists of 163 separate mosaic panels, one for each step riser. Community members were able to participate directly in creating the panels via a series of workshops that the artists held during summer 2004. San Francisco ~ California."- the artist's definition. Also i think the things that i see in this artwork is the world is like the ocean, a sea full of fish and adventure. and the artist wants us to explore the world and all of the wonderful people in it.

2. the second piece would be the Yarn Bombing - By B-Arbeiten the artist definition would have to be art is childish and child like, i see when i look at this is that the world doesnt have to be so dark and cold, everything doesnt have to be so dark and cold so you should let your colors and happiness show

3.and the third one i'm choosing is the Black framed glasses By Pavel Puhov and the artist definition would be "Art is like soup. There will be some vegetables you don't like but as long as you get some soup down you it doesn't matter." and i think its actually a funny piece of art just for play and the piece could be a joke, to say that God has dropped his glasses and misplaced them. the purpose for this artwork is to symbolize that everyone misplaces things and here are are some glasses that someone misplaced

The first piece of art I chose to look at was the eiffel tower street model picture. This piece resembles Robert Motherwell's quote where he says, " Art is much less important than life, but what a poor life without it" This connects to the piece because the artist does not symbolize the eiffel tower as any importance to society, but rather he uses it to express himself.

The second choice was Ghetto by Kurt Wenner. This artist chose to take something that has always been portrayed as a bad place to refer to, and he chose to make something beautiful out of it. This shows how much art can connect with each and every person.

The final piece I chose to look at was Cocito. This piece has a bunch of people trapped together within concrete. This connects with the quote by Paul Klee, " Art does not reproduce what is visible, it makes things visible." He is saying that art brings to light ideas and thoughts by different artists, which is exemplified in this piece. The people trapped is a metaphor to our society, and the artist wanted to bring that to light.
