My daughter is doing research on The Beatles and will give a book speech on them this week for her English class. It made me think about how often music creeps into our lives. So often when we read a book, we forget to think about how music sits perched in the background. Our story takes place during WWII. Listen to this song played by Glenn Miller, "In the Mood." (Click the song title. It is the link.)
This song was released in the late 30's and early 40's. People in the states danced and listened to this type of music finding solace from what was going on in the world. Music is often what we turn to in moments when times are tough, when we need inspiration, or when we need to understand.
After you listen to the music, think about what modern music would capture the mood or energy of this song? What music do we turn to in our most recent war that helps us to understand, try to understand, honor, or try to honor those who have and are fighting for us.
Write about one song and in what way it impacts those who turn to it in times of conflict. Many many songs have been written. You may go back to the Vietnam war to find even more songs. Incorporate the lyrics, song title, and artist in your explanation. Feel free to listen to many different songs before you find the one you wish to write about. Happy listening!

Modern music that could capture the mood or energy of this song are songs such as," Animals," by Neon Trees or," Hello," by Martin Solveig & Dragonette. The type of music that we most often turn to in our most recent war is usually either upbeat, happy music, pop, or things you can lose yourself dancing to. In terms of understanding, honoring, and trying to honor those who are fighting for us, sad, alternative, rock, and certain country songs, are used most often. "Party Rock Anthem," by LMFAO, is an example of a song that helps you temporarily forget and go to a different place. The beat of the song and the repetitive and fun nature of the words draw you in. The lyrics, "Party rock is in the house tonight. Everybody just have a good time. And we gonna make you lose your mind. Everybody just have a good time," seem to create the party-like atmosphere the song has. It helps you get rid of your stress by telling you repeatedly to lose your mind and have a good time.
The song that I picked was "Friends Are Friends Forever". I chose this song because when my friend moved I listened to this song for comfort. One of the lyrics to this song is "packing up the dreams god planted". I chose this lyric because it means that the dreams and memories are still there even though the person left. The person just brought them with her/him. Another lyric is "friends are friends forever if the lords the lord of them" this reminds me that we will always be friends. I still listen to this song when I miss my friend.
Modern music that could capture the energy in this song are songs like "Young Forever" by The Ready Set. It is an upbeat song that you would probably catch yourself dancing around to. The song that I picked that always helps me when I need it is "Get Back Up" by TobyMac. I think that it could really impact people in times of conflict because if you really listen to the words, they are really powerful and true. For example, "It's never too late to get back up again. You may be knocked down, but not out forever." This tells you that even though you may feel like giving up is all you have left to do, it is never the only option, there is always hope. Sometimes this is all someone needs to be told to feel better so that's why I listen to this song.

Modern music that captures the meaning of this song would be "Makes Me Happy" by Drake Bell. He talks about how everything that a certain girl does, makes him happy. he says"because you make me happy, make me wanna sing." I think this relates to how happy the people get when they hear "In the Mood." One song that people could turn to in times of conflict is "Amazing Grace." This song was sung by many artists but it shows how by the grace of God, you can get through any situation. It states "I once was lost but now i'm found; was blind but now I see." This song is made with beautiful lyrics that tell you that you can fo anything through God.
Modern song's such as "escape" by Enrique Inglesias and "You're My Best friend" by queen. Each of these song's sounds fairly like "In The Moos", they are all very relaxed and have a constant feel throughout the piece. can relate to this song. I think a modern song that I turn to would be "This Afternoon" by nickleback. It was a song me and my family listening to this whole summer while out on the lake, it's brings back happy memories of laying out in the sun and swimming with friends.Another song could be "I Want Candy" by Aaron Carter. Although the song isn't recent it gives the listener a sense of loose, and wildness. The lyrics are catchy and don't seem to have a deep meaning.
I think that there's lots of modern music that describes the war and feelings toward it. A specific genre that I find is especially touching and captures the mood the most is Country music. There's many patriotic country songs my favorite one is "Everyday America" by Sugarland. Whenever I listen to it, it puts me into an upbeat happy mood! I think it's definitely a song that people could relate to and listen to during hard times of war. The lyrics describe life growing up in a small town, one part that stands out to me is when the lyrics say, "That's how it goes in everyday America, A little town and a great big life" I feel like this relates to the war because lots of men in small towns enlist and do their country so much good and essentially they live up to the lyrics and have a "great big life". Not only is this song about America and our country but it's also upbeat at gives someone going through a hard time a reason to smile!

Modern days songs that capture the mood of this song would be "Love Drunk" by Boys Like Girls and "Shake It" by Mertro Station. These represent this song very well because they make you want to dance like the people in the video and right after the loudest point of the dsong it gets quiet like "In the Mood". The song "Halfway Gone" by Lighthouse is a perfect song to represent War because he is talking about being halfway gone. In this content part of him, physically is at war and mentally the other half is at home with his family and loved ones. Another song is "I'll Stand By You" by the Pretenders talking about having true friends and lovers who will always care and want to talk to you. The song says, "So if you're mad, get mad
Don't hold it all inside
Come on and talk to me now
Hey, what you got to hide?
I get angry too
Well I'm a lot like you
When you're standing at the crossroads
And don't know which path to choose
Let me come along
'cause even if you're wrong", which is a perfect song for someone to listen to when they are feeling alone, facing a tought time or choice or having trust issuees.
A modern song that relates to Glenn Miller's "In the Mood" not through the mood of happiness, but the feeling that there will always be a determined hope is Fort Minor's "Remember the Name".
This is ten percent luck, twenty percent skill
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will
Five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name(line 3).
The song's beat mixed with the lyrics hypes up the adrenaline, forcing me to feel determined and unbreakable.
A song that gives an understanding of war is Linkin Park's "Hands Held High". "My dad, he's got a lot of fear I know/ But enough pride inside not to let that show" War is not a welcomed guest in society and the song explains that individuals act like the times are great, possibly to protect young or to slow the contagiousness of fear from entering into the others' hearts.
Nickelback's"If Everyone Cared", transfers hope in humanity's goodness.
If everyone cared and nobody cried
If everyone loved and lied
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride
Then we'd see the day when nobody died(7).
These lyrics influence positive choices and bestows hope in other humans. With teamwork in society, greed withered away, and indifference becoming intolerable, peace can be created. A day will come where worldwide peace will be attained.
there are 2 songs that can always make me feel a little better. one is "Tonight Tonight" by Hot Chelle Rae because they say that they have had a rough time but they are still going to have fun."Its been a really really messed up week"..... "its alright, alright, tonight, tonight" they know that they are going to have rough days and weeks, but they are saying have fun cause it will be okay. the other song is a country song. country songs, i can always find one to fit my mood, or make it better. the song "Here for a good time" by George Strait says "im not gonna lay around and whine and moan cause somebody done, done me wrong" he is not going to get really upset and dwell over an action done by someone else that did not make him very happy. he is just trying to have fun and go party. "i believe its half full not a half empty glass, everyday i wake up knowing it could be my last"he lives everyday like it is his last because you never know when that day will come.
The modern music that captures this energy would be or Dynamite by Taio Cruz. It is very upbeat like In the Mood. It is modern song that captures the energy and happiness of the song In the Mood. Dynamite uses lyrics like, “I came to dance dance dance dance, I hit the floor cuz thats my plans plans plans plans, Im wearing all my favorite brands brands brands brands brands… i throw my hands up in the air sometimes saying a oh gotta let go, i wanna celebrate and live my life…”. These lyrics put the listener is a good mood and make them want to dance. A song that someone could turn to when they don’t understand what families and wives are going through is Traveling Soldier by the Dixie Chicks. This song helps people to understand how it feels when someone leaves for war and you can’t wait for them to come back home safely like the mothers and children who get excited, “when the letter said a soldier is comin home”. I chose these lyrics because you can feel how relieved families will be when they get the letter in her voice. They will get excited, but for all the time they lost together when he was at war that they will never get back and how their love will never end while he is away is represented in this song through the lyrics, “Our love will never end, waitin for the soldier to come back again”.

The mood from the Glenn Miller song was that every song can cheer you up when your down.
Im choosing "Unfriend You" by greyson chance because even though he was heart broken he still had a great time hanging out with his frinds.
Another song is "Party Rock" becuase its a great song to listen to when your down.

Glenn Miller’s song “In the Mood” is an upbeat song that makes you want to dance. A modern day song that resembles Glenn Miller’s piece is “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5. The song is also upbeat, makes you want to dance, and it puts you in a good mood.
A song that you can listen to in the time of a war is “Better in Time” by Leona Lewis. Some lyrics from this song are “Without something there that would remind me, It wasn't all that easy, To just put aside your feelings, If I'm dreaming, don't wanna lie, Hurt my feelings, But that's the path, I believe in, And I know that time will heal it” This is saying put the past behind because in the future it will all get better. This is the type of song to listen to during war because it is telling you just think about the future because it will get better.
A song that people turn to in times of conflict is “Party Rock Anthem” by IMAFO. This song can make someone happy and forget about the bad things in life. This song allows you to just let go and forget about your problems.

The energy of music "In The Mood" makes you want to dance, and get up on stage and start playing the instruments. this music drains all the bad feelings from you. There are some modern rock an roll music that would do the same.
A artist that i turn to is Jay Sean. A good song that reminded me is "war". Part of the song talks about how he would cross a desert and and him being in the trenches to fight for a girl in the song. He sings about crossing the "desert" which is from Iraq and "trenches" from world war 2.
-Dmytro stasiouk-
Some modern music that would fit the energy of “In The Mood” by Glenn Miller would be “Best Love Song” by T-Pain or “Stereo Hearts” by Gym Class Heroes. These songs fit the energy of Glenn Miller's song because they're upbeat, they always put me in a good mood and they make me wanna show my moves just like “In The Mood”!
A song that honors those fighting for us is “Citizen Soldier” by 3 Doors Down. It tells us that the brave soldiers are “Holding the light for the ones that we guide from the dark of despair, Standing on guard for the ones that we've sheltered, We'll always be ready because we'll always be there”. The soldiers are helping and guiding those in need. They fight for us now, and will continue fighting, they will always be there. Listening to it impacts those who listen to it because they realize that the soldiers will always be there for us, they might not be here with us, but they're making our lives safer, and we need to honor them.

Modern music that could capture the mood of this song could be "Keep Your Head Up" by Andy Grammar. "In the Mood" starts off slowly, and gradually increases to become a happy and cheerful song.
We turn to uplifting music like "Good Life" by OneRepublic. This song explains that we can get through rough times together. It shows there is hope in the future. It helps us learn to appreciate others because he is saying he won't complain even though he has alot to complain about, because he knows there are people with bigger problems.
A song people turn to in times of conflict would be "Where is the Love" by Black eyed Peas. This song is explaining war is not good, it is making the world worse. When the singer says
"People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek
Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love"
he is explaining many people do not understand there is more problems in the world than what they think. He is asking for God to help the world to be more peaceful.

Some songs that may reflect the enthusiasm of the song "In the Mood" by Glenn Miller are "You and I" by Lady Gaga and "Super Bass" by Nicki Minaj. Both of these songs have a fast beat and can turn your mood around. "Keep Your Head Up" by Andy Grammer is a song that you could listen to in this war. The lyrics say, "I know it's hard, know its hard, to remember sometimes, but you gotta keep your head up,oh,and you can let your hair down." These lyrics mean that you have to keep hope no matter what and even when it is difficult. Just relax and "let your hair down" meaning just let go. This song comforts you when you are down with the uplifting lyrics such as, "Only rainbows after rain; the sun will always come again". This helps represent that even when life seems like it will never get better, it will.

modern music that would capture the mood would have to be "party rock anthem" by LMFAO. the beat of this song makes you forget about all the bad things happening in life and makes you happy. it helps you get rid of the stress and just go out party and have a good time."and we gonna make you lose your mind, everybody just have a good time." this is part of the lyrics that shows you they want you to get up and have fun.
Modern music that could capture the mood of this song are songs such as "You Make Me Feel..." by Cobra Starship and "Super Bass" by Nicki Minaj. Music that you can turn to during war is rock, alternative, country, and even religious music. A song that would be good for a conflict such as heartbreak is the song "Picture to Burn" by Taylor Swift. In her song she sings about how her relationship is over and she's not afraid to leave him in the dust. It can make a person feel a whole lot better after listening to it.

Modern music that captures the same energy as this song are songs such as "Keep Your Head Up" by Andy Grammer or "Let It Be" by The Beatles. Both of these songs are about dealing with the situation and moving on with life.
Just like any teenage girl, I can always turn to Taylor Swift. Singing and dancing along with the lyrics, I can always relate to what she sings about in her songs.

Modern music that would capture this mood or energy would be Party in the USA, because there is a good beat and the lyrics continually talk of relaxing and having fun, creating a party-like atmosphere. "So I put my hands up, they're playin'my song. The butterflies fly away, nodding my head like yeah; Moving my hips like, Yeah. Put my hands up, thy're playing my song; I know im gonna be okay. Yeah, it's a party in the USA." The lyrics say to let go and have fun, something that people might turn to when they wouldnt want to face facts or reality. Something happy or energeti when we want to forget is popular, but when reconizing, alot of country songs talk of the soldiers and american pride.

During our most recent war, many upbeat happy songs that make you want to dance were produced. One song that always gets me in an upbeat mood and captures the energy of "In the Mood" is "Get Up and Dance" by Faber Drive. It always makes me forget about whatever is going on and just dance. "Hey, yeah, caught in the moment, you can't control it. Hey, yeah, this is your chance now. Get up and dance now, dance now. Everybody dance now, move your body now."
The artists I find that most honor and understand these hard times we go through though are the Rock and Roll artists, like "If Everyone Cared" by Nickelback. They sing, "If everyone cared and nobody cried, If everyone loved and nobody lied, If everyone shared and swallowed their pride, Then we'd see the day when nobody died...And as we lie beneath the stars We realize how small we are If they could love like you and me Imagine what the world could be."
I think there's a lot of modern music that would describe the feelings and mood of war. The song I think people could relate to during the hard times of war is "Black Parade" by My chemical Romance. This is a rock song that describes triumph and virtue. The lyrics state "son when you grow up, would you be the savior of the broken, the beatened and the damned? He said will you defeat them and your demons and all the non believers?" These words are so encouraging to go on and save what you believe. To do justice in the world and carry on! The song is also up beat so even in the hard times it's catchy and can cheer anyone up.

The song I have chosen to write about is the song "Born To Be Somebody" by Justin Bieber. This song is very inspirational. It talks about how no matter what gets in your way you have to keep pushing yourself to do better. You have to tell yourself that nothing can hold you back. Once you realize what you want you have to go for it with everything you have and not let anyone or anything get in your way.
i think that the song "The Crocodile Rock" could capture the energy of the song. both songs are energetic. the one song that i also will say down below is "The National Anthem". we turn to this song when the nation is upset or just what to hear it. we play the national anthem at our major sport games. that is how we mostly practice honoring the people who fought and died in any war.
one song that is kind of old but it inspires people to feel good about America. the song is "The National Anthem". people look to this song in the times of need sometimes.
A song that is similar to "In the Mood" is Party Rock Anthem. The song is upbeat and can put you in a better mood. It is one of those songs that makes you just want to get up and dance, just like "In the Mood".
A song that is closely related to war is "Coming Home". This song talks about return to the place you came for and making sure that everyone knows of your arrival. This song can give hope to those who have loved ones at war.
Many songs today are upbeat, danceable and bring us happiness. A few songs that have the same kind of energy of “In The Mood” are “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO and “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5. Both of these songs are very popular, danceable, and can help you forget about what is going on at the moment and have a good time.
A song that we can turn to in times of war or conflict is “Pocket Full Of Sunshine” by Natasha Bedingfield. I think this because it sends a message of happiness and positivity. In the songs it says, “Do what you want but you’re never going to break me/ Sticks and stones are never going to shake me.” Which means that whatever the force does we can overcome it and rise against. Also the closing lines of the song is about looking toward the future that will be bright, “The sun is on my side/ Take me for a ride/ I smile up to the sky/ I know I’ll be alright”. After listening to this song it always repeats in the back of my head in times that I’m feeling down and it inspires me to have a good outlook at life.

One song that I find relates to "In the Mood" would be "Everybody Loves Me" by OneRepublic. This upbeat and fun song could be connected to our current war in two ways as I see it.
First, in times of sadness and fighting, people don't want to think about it. They want an escape, where they can stop worrying about people on the other side of the world and be selfish for a moment. OneRepublic provides a perfect song for those people to get lost in. This song is about a narcissistic man(I'll admit he seems to regret this though). People can relate to the lyrics "swaying to my own sound," in the way that everyone wants to follow their own rules like this man does.
Another way that a people can escape war into this song would be to lose themselves in the carefree life of the man in it. If a person were not in the mood for wishing that their life were that easy, then they could simply listen to his glamorous situation and dance to it. Vain as it is, this song provides a very good dance beat and melody that one could sing to happily.
The song "Everybody Loves Me" by OneRepublic is a melodious and slightly conceited song that is easy to loose one's self in, either to imagine an easy life, or to dance and sing and simplify an existing life for a moment.
It's also kind of ironic, when you think about it. "Well hell sees her shadow in my back seat, and all her friends are standing right in front of me," that's sort of depressing for a uplifting song. Almost the exact essence of war, right? Heck is close by to this man with mixed priorities and forms of it are near by him; I'm guessing that just about any soldier will same thing.
Anna J. 7-8 period
Modern music that captures the mood of this song would be some of the upbeat music like Lady Gaga, Brittany Spears, and many other artist who mainly have positive connotations to their songs. Music to turn to during time of war would be music from writers such as Toby Keith who write songs about war and America. "Red, White, and Blue is a great example of this. Another great example would be "Made in America." They both represent America and the war we are in. During times of conflict though, songs can be different depending on the type of conflict. If we are talking about war a good song that impacts us could be the song "One" by Metallica. It talks about the struggle of soldiers in war. If we are talking about our own individual conflicts a good song that could impact our lives could be "God Gave Me You" by Blake Shelton. I picked this song because whenever I listen to it, it makes me feel good inside. I feel as though everyone has someone to lean on and everyone has a purpose in life, we just have to find that purpose. "Cause God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
And for when I think I lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it’s true
God gave me you
Gave me you"
Shelton sings this song and brings out the message that everyone has someone that can bring them up if they are down and during their days of doubt. It brings me up when I am down. That is why it impacts me and that is why I love this song.

The song "Why can't we be friends," by War is a song that justifies the reasons why many people can not get along, whether its the color of your skin, or what your social or credential status is. The song is extremely repetetive by repeating the question, "Why can't we be friends" over and over. The point the artist is trying to make is that, we should all be friends, and be indiscriminate towards one another.
I fell that a song that relates to "In the Mood" by Glen Miller would have to be "Walking On Sunshine" by A.J. and Aly. It's a happy song that has a good beat that will make the listener want to dance and sing along. A song that portrays world war two would be have to be "War" by Edwin Starr. Even though this song says that war is good for nothing, it doesn't mean military and soldiers are good-for-nothing, it just means war is good for nothing because it isn't anything but a heartbreak. It just tells how wars are sad and should be over as soon as possible.
A song that would helps us to understand and to honor those who are fighting would be where were you when the world stopped turning by alan jackson. It talks about what you did during the 9/11 attacks and how you felt during it. It speaks to everyone so that we will never forget the 9/11 attacks and that there are normal people that care and want to solve things.
I feel like DotA by Bass Hunter captures the mood and energy of the song “In the Mood” because of how fast and bouncy the tune is. They both have a lot of energy and spunk to them. When I hear “DotA”, I feel like getting up and dancing like all those people on the video. I just love the overall happy feeling tat the two songs give me. The song “DotA” and the song “In the Mood” both have very bouncy, fast, catchy tunes, that make you want to get up and smile and dance till you can’t breathe.
A song that I feel impacts people in times of conflict is “I Can Walk on Water, I Can Fly” by Bass Hunter. It just seems to be perfect for those people going off and fighting in the war. The verse “I will never be afraid again, I will keep on fighting till the end,” even gives me courage and I’m not fighting in a war. It makes me feel stronger, like I actually WILL never be afraid again. I can picture many soldiers being inspired by just this little snippet of lyrics. Also the part of the song where it says “I can walk on water, I can fly,” makes me feel like I could do absolutely anything. It instills a type of courage and determination in me that I think you would need to be able to go off and fight in a war. Lastly the verse “I will keep on fighting till I die,” shows me the kind of determination that the soldiers in war have. It’s that kind of determination that you get when you’re trying to protect something or someone important to you. It’s the same kind of determination that a father gets when he tries to protect his children from getting hurt. It is the determination that comes from love. The lyrics are saying that I will fight until I drop dead if I have to, and I feel that a lot of soldiers say that they WILL keep fighting till they drop dead to protect their liberty and their loved ones.

I think that a song that captures the mood of "In the Mood" could be "Only the Good Die Young" by Billy Joel because the tone is upbeat, and it allows you to enjoy yourself and the music.
A song that helps us in times of conflict is "Move Along" by the All American Rejects. This song states "when all you got to keep is strong, move along, move along, like I know you do, and even when your hope is gone, move along, move along, just to make it through". This song is saying that basically, no matter what happens, we just have to move along. Even when all seems lost and we cannot hope any longer, we just keep going.
Another song that helps us through conflict and war is "Float On" by Modest Mouse. This song, simply, says "and we'll all float on okay, we'll all float on, alright already, we'll all float on okay, we'll all float on," meaning that though we can worry about what is happening somewhere else, we will always "float on", and we always can. I believe that this song is very calming and I love listening to it when I am hurt or lost, and it can always help me "float on" and move on from my troubles.

The first modern song that came into my mind was Hero by Skillet because the lyrics in this song talk about a hero saving someone and in the 1930-1940's the people in the consentration camps were hoping for a hero or a miricle to save them from the torture and aggony that the Nazi soldiers have forced on to them.
Some modern music that could capture the mood of this music would be songs that are very upbeat and happy. Some songs by Lady Gaga and Keisha and Katy Perry and other people like them. This is the type of music that we often turn to to try and take our minds off the bad things, like war. We listen to music to remind ourselves that things will get better and that they will not always be bad. One song that can help that I heard once is "Alice" by Avril Lavigne. When you truly listen to the lyrics it says "I, I'll get by
I, I'll survive
When the world's crashing down
When I fall and hit the ground
I will turn myself around
Don't you try to stop me!
I, I won't cry"
This is saying that even when she is at the lowest she an still turn her life around and make everything better. This can apply to the world, war, and our sad moments as well. No matter how bad it gets it can always get better.
This modern music really shows the mood that makes you want to dance and let lose. A song that Goez with war is the song War by Jay Sean. It to me explains that things happen but you will do anything you can to make yourself and the ones you love safe. A song that I listen to when I feel like I'm down and just britens my mood is I Hope You Dance by Lee Ann Womack. It's a song that really is saying when times get rough you need to get up and dance. Show the world that you are better than what it throws at you. Always follow your heart.

A modern song that I think captures the central mood and energy of In the Mood by Glenn Miller is the song Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO ft. Lauren Bennett and Goonrock. This song continualy repeats, "Everybody just have a good time." This song is a very upbeat song and encourages everyone to just have fun.
A song that impacts those who turn to it in times of conflict is Skyscraper by Demi Lovato. This song talks about how an individual can rise up from all the bullying, etc. of the people around them. This song is very powerful. A lyric that is very powerful is:
You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I'm made of glass
Like I'm made of paper
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground
Like a skyscraper
Like a skyscraper
(chorus).
The chorus talks about how other people can break and tear a person but, in the end, that person is able to rise from it. That person can be a "skyscraper." This song is very encouraging. Just by listening to Skyscraper by Demi Lovato, a person can instantly feel stronger, no matter what situation they are going through.
Modern songs that capture the energy of "In The Mood" are Katy Perry's "Firework," or Lady Gaga's "Just Dance." Both of these songs make you want to get up and dance. "Firework" even has a good message behind it; it could brighten the mood of any moment, even during war. Perry sings about how you shouldn't be afraid to be yourself, and to be "brighter than the moon."
Songs that I could always turn to when I'm down are those by Taylor Swift. I can always relate to what she sings about.

Modern music that captures the mood of "In The Mood" are endless. The mood this song sets is just forgetting everything and having a good time. Today, an example would be "Tonight, Tonight," by: Hot Chelle Rae. This song is all about having fun even though the singers life isn't perfect. The song starts, "It's been a really, really messed up week/ seven days of torture/ seven days of bitter." It goes on to say, "It's alright, alright, tonight, tonight." The idea of the song is just to have fun to numb all of his feelings.
Another example would be "Edge of Glory," by: Lady GaGa. This song is about her meeting someone she really likes and just wanting to be with them. She's finally found happiness and just wants to stay that way. It doesn't matter what problems surround her, just what is happening now.

I think a modern song that captures the energy of "In the Mood" is "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO. It's very upbeat and when you hear it, you can't help but smile and want to dance. It brings about a sense of comfort in people and the ability to get up and have fun. The song that I chose to write about is called "I Have Seen the Rain" by the artist Pink and her father, James Moore. It's about a man who fought in the Vietnam war, and it talks about all the memories he's carried and the scars that will never fade away. In one line, he says "Spend my days just searching. Spend my nights in dreams. Stopped looking over my shoulder, baby I've stopped wondering what it means." I think what listeners take from this is that no matter what you've been through, you can't live in the past and you always have to keep looking forward. I love this song because when I listen to it, it reminds me that things will always get better and that I'll survive anything that comes my way. Another line is, "I don't know where I'm going. I don't even know where I've been. But I know I'd like to see them again." This also paints a picture of hope and that there are always new places waiting for us, no matter where the road takes us.
The song “In the Mood” has a very upbeat rhythm. By just hearing the lyrics, one feels the need to whistle along and maybe even get up and start to dance. There are many modern songs that have this same effect. Josh Turner’s “Firecracker” is one of these songs. The beat of the song is very fast, and makes one want to get up and start to dance and jump around. If you are in a bad mood and decide to listen to the song, it literally changes your mood in three and a half-minutes. Another song by Josh Turner that has a similar effect is “Why Don’t We Just Dance.” As stated by the words in the title, the song can make once just want to dance and sing along. The lyrics are very uplifting, and the beat is impeccable. The song starts with “Baby why don’t we just turn that TV off? Three hundred fifteen channels of nothing but bad news on. Well it might be me, but the way I see it the whole world has gone crazy. So baby, why don’t we just dance?” Because of these lines, one can interpret this as a song to turn to in bad times. Of course many songs have similar effects to these, but these are just two that I picked.

I can think of several songs that would apply to wars and such that are going on currently. One song that comes to mind that I've heard before is the song Courtesy of the Red, White, & Blue by Toby Keith. The song was written after his father died as a result of the 9/11 attacks. I think both the songs lyrics and the origin that it comes from can impact those today. The song not only acts as a inspiration but also as a reminder of the price of war. It can serve as an inspiration because of just the lyrics themselves for example:
Oh, justice will be served and the battle will rage:
This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage.
An' you'll be sorry that you messed with the U.S. of A.
'Cos we'll put a boot in your a**, it's the American way.
The song acts as an inspiration because it reminds people that the lives that were lost in both 9/11 and in the war itself wouldn't be in vain.
The song can also act as a reminder of the price of war. Not only was the song created as a result of a death due to a war but the lyrics also go along with it.
American girls and American guys, will always stand up and salute.
We'll always recognize, when we see ol' glory flying,
There's a lot of men dead,
So we can sleep in peace at night when we lay down our heads.
The song reminds us that there are men and women dying just so we can live in peace ourselves.
So overall I think the song applies to modern times due to the reasons it was created and the fact that it applies to not only citizens, but also those in the military as well.
There are two examples of songs that I think of right of the bat. The first one which is an upbeat, happy, proud to be an American type song titled "God Bless the USA," by Lee Greenwood. One quote that brings positive and strong vibes in my opinion is "and I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free and I won't forget the men who died who gave that right to me." The second song is titled "Have You Forgotten," by Darryl Worley. The quote that really helps Americans understand what we're going through in that song is "And you say we shouldn't worry about Bin Laden, have you forgotten?" Many alternative rock, country, and even some pop songs can really go into depth about the war we're in now and try to point our minds in a positive way without forgetting.

Modern music that would capture the mood of this song would be 15th And The 1st by Gucci Mane or Worldwide Chopper by Tech N9ne. The music that comforts me and pumps me up is rap. When im feeling down I listen to rap because the rappers that I listen to rap most of the things going on in my life. The songs that comfort me the most are How You Like Me Now by Hopsin, Forever By Drake, My Worst Enemy by Gucci Mane, and Ill Mind of Hopsin by Hopsin. These songs make me feel pumped up. Like before a basketball game I listen to music to get me ready.
The first songs that come to mind when I think about modern versions of this song are "I Gotta Feelin" by the Black Eyed Peas, or "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO. When I here any of these three songs, I feel an extreme urge to just start dancing (and I actually did when I listened to "In the Mood"!). The songs all have a high energy. In my opinion, they are part of a VERY select group of songs that seem be alive themselves. I bet if you went on youtube and searched for "Party Rock Anthem" you would find an almost ridiculously large assortment of videos related to that song or LMFAO. Similarly, I'm sure that many other bands of that era heard that song and began to play it, but maybe put there own spin on it.
A song I listen to when I'm sad about world events is the song "One Tribe" by the Black Eyed Peas. In the song, they sing about unity and not caring about "the color of your eye or the tone of your skin." They are talking about how no matter where we come from, what language we speak, etc, we are all part of the human race. Scientifically, we are living proof of Darwin's Theory of Evolution. A sparrow on one island of the Galapagos Islands may have a wider beak than a sparrow on another island, but they are still both sparrows. Similarly, we as humans have different physical features as an evolutionary tactic, but we are all still human. This song reminds me that even though a small part of a group of people may not like a different group of people, that does not mean that all of the other group of people is bad. So, I got really mad when people got angry because a group of Muslims decided to build a synagogue close to the 9/11 memorial. However, I wasn't mad at the Muslims. I was mad at the people who got angry at them and all because of that one song.
I chose the song ''Pardise'' by Coldplay. This could help to keep peoples mind off of negative things such as war. ''and she dreamed of paradise'' This song makes you imagine yourself in a happier place. Although it still mentions the bad things, the point of the song is getting away from those things.
The mood and energy of this song is just generally upbeat, and kind of gives a theme of looking at the brighter side, and I really get this feelings whenever I listen to the song "Happy" by Natasha Bedingfield. It just kind of tells you to keep your head up and smile for what you do have, instead of dwelling on what you and the people in the world don't.
I think that a lot of people turn to religious and spiritual songs in times of war. I am not exactly a religious person, but the song "You Raise Me Up" by Westlife is really amazing and doesn't need to be interpreted as being about God. It could be about our government, or any other higher power that the listener holds in regard.
When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary
When troubles come and my heart burdened be
Then I am still and wait here in the silence
Until you come and sit awhile with me
You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be.
When I hear this song, I think about our military and how people who have friends and family in service might listen to this in times of war to honor those who fight and give their lives for our own freedom. My cousin is a marine and I can personally connect to this song because all of our military men and women are the strong ones, and they carry us all on their shoulders and in their hearts. I don't think that I am the only one that feels this way, so that is why I think that this is the kind of music that people would turn to, to honor and pay respect to those fighting in times of war and conflict. It's a really beautiful song and I think anyone who gets the chance should listen to it, and not so much analyze as feel what the song is trying to say.

I was so excited to be able to listen to "In The Mood" for the blog of this week. This has been my favorite song for a long time, I'm a saxophonist, and I love jazz, and big band music.
Modern music that may capture the energy of this song wouldn't even be comparable to the significance of The Glenn Miller Band, but "This is home" by Switchfoot is a great example of going home, and like when soldiers from war come home. They're finally with their families and not out in the world fighting a war. A modern day song that would capture the energy of this song may be "I'm taking you with me" by Relient K because it has that upbeat feeling to it, it talks about not wanting to leave someone behind, but in a light, energetic kind of way. The song talks about not wanting to leave someone you love behind, because their your home. Like a solider leaving the first time for the war, and leaving his family behind.
These songs incorporate meaning of love, leaving, home, and so much more, but it all relates back to those who have, and are fighting for us. Those people are true heroes.

A modern song that captures the mood/meaning of "In the Mood" is "Not Afraid" by Eminem. The refrain of the song is:
"I'm not afraid (I'm not afraid)
To take a stand (to take a stand)
Everybody (everybody)
Come take my hand (come take my hand)
We'll walk this road together, through the storm
Whatever weather, cold or warm
Just lettin you know that, you're not alone
Holla if you feel like you've been down the same road (same road)" (chorus)
This song talks about how you're never alone. How you should stand up for what you believe in and what's right. This song can help people because if they're ever afraid of the outcome, or not sure why we're fighting they can listen to this song. It shows how important doing the right thing is. It also shows that support is a big part of it. No one should have to do it alone, we're all in it together. The song also talks about how, there might be ups and downs along the way, but in the end we'll make it through. This song gives a meaning of support and courage, not only to the soldiers, but to the people back home.

Modern music is something that we all just turn on with our radio's. We don't always pay attention to all the lyrics but we still take in something. A song that I would turn to is "Price Tag" by Jessie J. It talks about forgetting about money problems, how you look, just smile once in a while! Don't give in to what the world is doing by looking at appearence only and stuck up like hollywood shows us. Just show people love. One of the lines in the song says, "We need to take it back in time, when music made us all unite". This just shows how music today makes some people rebell and the older music like "In the Mood" really brought people together in a happy place.

Modern music that captures the energy of the song "In the Mood" is We found love by Rhianna. Both sounds are happy and they make you want to dance. I think a song that relates to our most recent war is "change" by Taylor swift because the lyrics are really inspirational and speak about changing the way things are for the better and never giving up. for example, "It's a revolution, the time will come for us to finally win, We'll sing hallelujah!" The lyrics talk about the change those fighting for us cause. A song people can turn to in a time of conflict is "give me Everything" by pitbull because it's about living for that day and not worry because you don't always have more days to come, like in the lyric "Give me everything tonight, For all we know we might not get tomorrow" The song just brings you up and makes you want to dance and forget about your problems.

In modern music they have like more words and less like orchestra type. The energy in "In The Mood" is more just dancing. The music we
turn to during a war is songs that are trying to make us happy. One example of a song can be "Thinking of You" by Katy Perry. Her song was made off of when someone important to her dies in the war (just the feelings)and you can really understands how she feels.
One song i love and think will be good is "Someone Like You" by ADELE. People might turn to this song in this conflict or problem because they can sing to it and feel the same way as adele did when she made this song. In the song she says "Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead." She was really sad and who ever is in this situation just know that never think so bad of that person.
Modern music that could capture the main ideas of this song would be "This City" by Patrick Stump. This song is uplifting to me because he singing about how where he grew up he will do anything for it and how he will always carry a little piece of his city around with him. Also that no one can take that away from him.
A song people turn to in conflict would be "Wavin' Flag" by K'naan. In this song they say "So many wars, settling scores, Bringing us promises leaving us poor, I heard them say, love is the way, Love is the answer, Thats what hey say," These lines really help show what people should be doing. avoid violence and war it doesnt bring much good to really anyone. Just treat everyone with love and life will be a good place.
This song impacts me because when i hear it i think of my dad. i think of him and all things he teaches me. my dad is 53 and he still talks about the old days and his buddies.when i get something old he tells me how it was made all that stuff.also when i hear this i think of country. country is just slow passe like it.

Modern music that captures the mood of this song would be "Tonight Tonight," by Hot Chelle Rae. This song, with lyrics "There's a party on the rooftop top of the world," and "I dont know if I'll make it but watch how good I'll fake it, its alright alright tonight tonight," make you want to forget about whats going on, and just have a good time. Like nothing else matters, and it just wants to make you get up and dance. One song that i think represents war, what they are going through, and that gives you hope is "American Soldier," by Toby Keith. The lyrics, "I will always do my duty, no matter what the price," and "I'll bear that cross with honor 'cause freedom don't come free," state that they are proud of who they are, and that whatever challenges them, they can push right through it.
-Sarah W. 7-8
some modern music taht would capture the song would be "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO becasue the song is upbeat and happy and "In the Mood" is also upbeat and in the video it looks like they're having a party the old fashion way. The type of music we listen to now in our most recent war would be either really happy upbeat songs that make us feel better or sad songs that makes us think of our loved ones that are in the war and even if we dont know anyone in the war we think about others who are in the war. "Part Rock Anthem" is a song that is easy to dance to and it can help you temperarily forget our worries and just have fun remembering nd hopeing things will workout.
Laura A. 7-8
one modern day song that in my opinion caries the same energy as this song is the song "moves like jagger" by maroon 5 because thats a energetic song that will want to make you dance no mater how sad you are
Some modern songs that captures the mood of 'In the Mood' are 'Take a giant step outside your mind' By the Monkees. This song talks about leaving the past behind, or leaving your mindset, to leave all the bad things and go a happy past. It's like how people in times of war turn to music to find happiness. Another song that's like finding joy in times of sadness is 'Follow the sun' By the Beatles. I think that it's like the music during the war and leaving behind the sadness and escaping to joy, that is music. The last song that I thing captures the feelings of fun, and excitement but still holds a sad tone to it is, The keys to the car by Michael Nesmith and the First national band. It's talk about happiness, and being able to feel free while driving away, but it still holds a meloncoly feel.

Modern music can be turned into a comforting song, no matter what it is about. The song that I turn to in times of crisis is a song that was released in 2001 called, "One More Time"' by Daft Punk. The fun nature of the song is seen through the lyrics and music. "One more time we're going to celebrate, oh yeah, all right, we going to start the dancing." The lyrics and music of the song have the listener to have a good time and forget about any negative thoughts. This is the only words said in the first half of the song to get the message sent straight to people who are dancing at parties and they hear that song that, "tonight is all about having a good time."
Matthew Wolens 3'
Modern music has a big impact in many situations. Some help us relate to sad times or happy, recessions and war or anytihng. A song thats energy mathches that of,"In the Mood," is,"Dynamite," by Taio Cruz. It is an upbeat song that can make you want to drop what you're doing and want to dance or tap your foot because it is kind of catchy. The quote from the lyrics,"I wanna celebrate and live my life Saying heyy ohh baby lets go(line 14-16)," show the feeling of just wanting to have fun and party not having to worry about anything else. A song that would best capture the feeling of honor would be,"Thats Something to be Proud of," by Montgomery Gentry. He repeats the line,"thats someething to be proud of, thats a life you can hang your hat on," after this he interjects a different phrase after the above quote. This shows the honor of how you can say your life was a success because you were in the military defending our country. That is showing honor, but you don't literally have to join military to gain honor just support our troops who are sacrificing themselves for us.
One song that would capture the mood or energy of "In the mood" would be, "Make it Mine" By Jason Mraz. The song blends Jason Mraz's calming voice, with the excitement and jazzy sounds coming from the trumpets, and electric guitar. He sings, "I don't wanna wait no more.
No I wanna celebrate the whole world. I'm gonna make it mine." These lyrics get you to feel joyous and that you are in control. The song is upbeat, and gets you to tap your foot and focus on the music and not what is going on outside of it. One song that you can turn to in our most recent war, to help us understand and honor those fighting would be, "Notbroken" By The Goo Goo Dolls. The song focuses on the words, and so it just has a calming presence with soft guitars. Johnny Rzeznik sings "Time won't ever steal my soul. We're not broken, so please come home. And if the world has worn you down. I'll be waiting, so please come home" This goes on to say that even if the soldier is away fighting, everything will be alright when they return. This gives hope to the person listening to it, that things are "not broken."

Modern music that would capture the energy would be songs like "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5, and "I gotta feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas because they make you want to get up and dance. It makes you just want to have a good time. They make you forget any bad memories or any bad things going on in your life. They lyrics from I Gotta Feeling "I gotta feeling that tonight's gonna be a good night" show that not to worry about anything because your going to have a good time. I chose these songs because songs about war are either usually upbeat or sad and slow. Specific genres of music that whos honor would be country.
I see the song "Time to Pretend" by MGMT to be the modern parallel to "In the Mood." It includes hypnotizing lyrics like:
"This is our decision, to live fast and die young. We've got the vision, now let's have some fun. Yeah, it's overwhelming, but what else can we do. Get jobs in offices, and wake up for the morning commute. Forget about our mothers and our friends We're fated to pretend"
"Time to Pretend" allows the audience to forget about their problems, and relax in a safe haven of fantasy, just like "In the Mood" did during the time of the war. Both songs are comforting.I always need a loud bass beat and fast tempo to clear my mind of all worry.
-Hannah Grabowski 2nd-
Modern music that could capture the mood or energy of Glenn Miller's "In the Mood" would be songs like "Forever" by Chris Brown because it talks about dancing forever and forgetting your problems and just being happy with your situation. The type of music that I think people turn to in order to understand current evetns would probably have to be country music because their songs tend to tell stories and people can relate to those stories and find comfort in the fact that they aren't alone in their problems. A song that I tend to turn to in times of need is "Not Afraid" by Eminem. In it it says "I'm not afraid, to take a stand. Everybody come take my hand. We walk this road together, through the storm whatever weather cold or warm." It just reminds me that even though I have my own problems I can still help people and in the long run, that makes me happy. It also ensures me that I have people there beside me to help me when I need it.
One song that I personally believe captures the energy of "In The Mood" is "We Found Love" by Rihanna. Both "In The Mood" and "We Found Love" are upbeat and positive. They make you forget about all your troubles and want to get up and dance. A song I turn to in times of conflict is "What Can I Say" by Carrie Underwood. The lyrics "Piercing words, eyes are red" explain the hard times you have to face in life and past mistakes you have made. Then when it says "it's like trying to spin the world the other way, what can I say" it is explaining the idea of all that being in the past and there's no way to change that now.
Modern music that captures the mood of this song would be "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5 or "Tonight Tonight" by Hot Chelle Rae. The song "In The Mood" is very upbeat, and it makes people want to dance, just like "Moves Like Jagger" and "Tonight Tonight". In the song "Tonight Tonight" it says, 'I don't know if I'll make it, but watch how good I fake it. It's alright, alright, tonight, tonight.' These lyrics show that no matter what happens, the artist is still gonna have fun. In modern times of war, many people turn to country music. In Carrie Underwood's song "Just a Dream", it shows how she deals with the death of a loved one in a war. Many people turn to this song and other country songs to help understand and cope with daiy struggles, including war.
Modern music that capture Iin the Mood"are usallyk dance songs like party rock anthem that have a good beat and people can dance to. The lyrics tell you to have a good time for example " Party rockers in the house tonight, everybody have a good time" they tell you to get in the mood and have a good time. I think this is a good song for when times are tough because it tells you to forget about your worries and get in the mood and just have a good time when you have the chance. Alot of songs by LMFAO are feel good, fun, and happy songs which is good in a time of crisis
A song that is similar is "pumped up kikcks" by foster the people. because the story behind it is sad but the beat to the song just puts a smmile on ur face. Cause i think people are often caught up in the beat of the song and dont realy know the meaning. :)
The song I picked to look back at when I'm in a time of dispair is "What I've Done" by Linkin Park. It shows that after everything that you went through is over, you tend to sometimes look back in regreat of everything you've done wrong. After everything that you've gone through, you still tend to look back in ashame of the difficulties along the way. Not only does it show regreat, but it shows that you have the ability to move on and forget about the hardships you had to endure. "So let mercy come
and wash away, what I’ve done". This creates a sense of relief and no longer having to worry about the troubles you had to face during your many various events.

I think a song that is the modern equivalence to Glenn Miller's "In The Mood" would be "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO, or "Good Life" by One Republic. These songs are happy, up-beat songs that you can dance to. When you listen to them, no one really thinks about the negativities of life, like war.
The song that I think is one of the best modern patriotic songs is "Courtesy Of The Red White and Blue" by Toby Keith. I have grown up listening to Toby Keith and believe country music does the best job at capturing patriotism. It is all about how we are ready to fight and protect our amazing country. he says "Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you'll be sorry that you messed with The U.S. of A.
'Cause we'll put a boot in your butt. It's the American way" He explains ( in a very modern way) that we are ready to fight back.
A lot of country songs are amazing at capturing the American spirit.
A song that I think someone would listen to to understand and honor our soldiers is "If you're reading this" by Tim Mcgraw. This is an amazing song about a solider, the lyrics is his last letter back home. It is truly touching and inspirational. The "soldier" explains how he is ok with dying, if it is for something he believes in, " I'm in a better place
Soldiers live in peace and angels sing amazing grace". The song talks about how he is proud that he fought " I'm layin' down my gun,
I'm hanging up my boots
Tell dad I don't regret that I followed in his shoes".
I absolutely love this song and believe is an amazing song families of soldiers can turn to.

The song I decided to write about is "Fortunate Son" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. This song has an upbeat and rhythmic sound that causes listeners to want to get up and dance. Also, this song creates an atmosphere of tranquility and relaxation that allows people to forget their problems and to enjoy the music. This same idea of rhythm and tranquility is apparent in both the musical styles of "Fortunate Son" and "In the Mood".
But besides just being pleasing in the form of rhythm and musical value the song "Fortunate Son" also has a lot of hidden value that is captured in the lyrics and theme of the song. For instance, the song is written in the time period of Woodstock and the Vietnam War. The song was used as a form of protest towards the drafting of American citizens into the army to fight in Vietnam. Also, the song was used to release the anger of the idea that the wealthy weren’t drafted but the poor and less fortunate were.
The song allowed people to turn to it as a way to vent their feelings and emotions. This idea of venting and opening up is shown throughout the entire song. An example is when it is sung,
“Ooh, they're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the Chief."
Ooh they point the cannon at you, Lord."
From this the idea of one’s own country turning against them and making them risk their lives becomes seen. This allows the listeners to feel the pain of the drafted soldiers and to gain a respect for what was happening in the time of Vietnam. Also, it is sung, “Some folks are born silver spoon in hand, Lord don't they help themselves..." This allows the audience to come to the realization of the selfishness and greed that some people had when it came to helping their own country in a time of need. Also the title and the artist’s tone helps to show the anger the common people had towards the government. For example, the title, “Fortunate Son” shows this idea of the wealthy getting the easy way out and not having to risk their lives as opposed to the middle and lower class. Also, the lead singer’s tone allows the listener to realize the type of cynical attitude toward what was happening during that time and how it was unfair.
Overall, this song helped to inform the people of the 60's of the unfair selection of drafting. But more importantly it helps those who have witnessed this draft to have a way to vent and relieve the anger and stress of what happened to their loved ones or themselves. Also, it allows the audience to feel a form of unity and alliance among men against a common enemy.
A modern song that captures the mood of the song I listened to is "Party Rock Anthem," or "This City." The two songs are both very upbeat and happy sounding. "This City" is also somewhat put together with honor because it is honoring the person's home city. The song "The Show Goes On," somewhat reminds me of a song that impacts those in a time of conflict because it says how the singer had a bad childhood, but he made it and everyone can make.

In 'Unbroken' Demi Lovato talks about how no matter how times she gets hurt by a guy, she's going to love as if she's never been hurt, or heart broken. She wants to start over every time. Or in Lady Gaga 'Edge Of Glory' she talks about how she would do anything for him, and she deserves to be treated good, she's not just a one time kind of person. She express how she be with him in any situation.
modern music that would capture the mood or energy of this song are "blow"by kesha and "dirty bit"by the black eyed peas. both of these songs makes me want to get up and start jumping and dancing. this is the type of music we usually turn to in times of war. happy music with a fast beat, songs that are fast and energetic.
In today's world there are many songs that reflect a similar mood and energy to "In the Mood." One in particular is "Hold Me" by Jamie Grace. This song is very up beat and energetic and just makes you feel good!
During these times of war people often turn to any patriotic song they can think of. Whether it's "I'm Proud to be an American", "The Star Spangled Banner", or "Amazing Grace." "I'm Proud to be an American" is one that I especially like because it shows how appreciative we are of our freedoms. "And I won't forget the men who died/who gave that right to me/ and I gladly stand up/ next to you and defend her still today/ 'cause there ain't no doubt I love this land/ God bless the USA." These lines show that we will never forget the great prices that were paid in order for us to have our freedoms and that we will do anything to ensure those rights for the future. The title even indicates that no matter what happens, we will always be proud to be Americans.
Whenever I hear "Hold Me" by Jamie Grace it puts me in a great mood! The song is all about how God is always there holding us in every situation and how He makes each day special. "Oo I love the way You hold me/ in Your arms I'll always be/ You take each and everyday make it special in some way." At the very beginning of the song she sings about how she has had a long day and how she just wants to relax, and then goes on to say how the Lord is holding and sustaining her through it. This speaks to many people as we become overwhelmed with our responsibilities and just don’t know what to do. It helps people to take a step back and to focus on God and his immense ability to help us through anything and everything.

Personally, the song i think has relevant meaning in our current times is "Flourish" by The Contortionist. Specifically, this part:
"Time is moving forward.
Elapse. Evolve. Expand. Adapt.
Adaptation runs parallel with surviving global conflict."
This is relevant because as humans, and in times of worldwide issues, humans always change, and adapt, and we must adapt to survive. This doesn't speak regarding war, but really in regards to everything. We don't necessarily need to understand what's going so much as we need to just get through it.
Some songs that I turn to when I'm upset, are very upbeat, like "Don't Stop The Party" by the Black Eyed Peas. When Fergie says "I ain't gonna stop until I'm done, I ain't gonna quit until I've won," it gives me a sense of power. It sounds to me like they are trying to send a message across to people, to not give up on something. Just push through because you know you can do it. I think that if you are upset, and you listen to sad songs, it doesn't help you get over anything, it just makes you even more upset because they are about sad things. They may help you temporarily forget about your problem, but in the mean time they are filling you with others.
A song that I thought captured the mood and feeling of the song "In the Mood" was "I Made It" by Kevin Rudolf ft. Lil Wayne and Jay Sean and Birdman. I chose this song because of the similar upbeat feeling it has that relates to the song "In the Mood." The song lightens up the mood and it inspires people to go for what they want in life. This song encourages people to believe that they can make it and think in a positive way instead of the negatives. In the song it talks about how they made it even when they were being told that they couldn't do it but they still pushed until their dreams came true. This can help people look at the success and achievement they have accomplished and not dwell on the negatives and what others say like you can't do something or it's not possible. This song gives inspiration to do something and the sense that if you try hard enough you can make anything possible.

A modern song that could capture the mood of this song is LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem. It is a very upbeat song. It is also a good song to turn to in conflict because it is a good song to lose yourself in. It has a good beat and catchy lyrics that help to ease whatever stress you may be under. The lyrics "Everybody just have a good time. And we gonna' make you lose your mind," help you to do just that have a good time and lose your mind in the song and forget about whatever you were stressed out about before. Most of the time today when remembering soldiers in the war we use songs that talk about coming home. This is because most soldiers want one thing and that is to come home to see their families.
A modern day music that reminds me of the war on terrorist is citizen soilders by three doors down. When ever my uncle mat and i hang out we listen to patriotic rock and shoot things. That song brings me back to a place i use to call home, a more southern style of liveing. When i listen to that music it also makes me worry about were my best freind is if he is dead, alive, or worse. One day i will fight for my country in his name and my grandfathers r.i.p. -James helms
There are many inspiring songs that relate to the song “In the Mood”. One song is, “Mirror” by Lil Wayne ft. Bruno Mars. It can help you get through a problematical time. “Through my rise and fall, you’ve been my only friend” can mean that sometimes, the only person you can trust is yourself.
“Mirror on the wall, here we are again
Through my rise and fall
You've been my only friend
You told me that they can't understand the man I am
So why are we here talking to each other again?”
Another song that relates to the cycle of birth and death would be, “Forever Young” by Mr Hudson:
“Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever, forever and ever?
Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever, forever and ever?
Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later they all will be gone”
Everyone wishes that they could stay young, forever, and never die. You just have to live every second of your life to the fullest, because, “Sooner or later they all will be gone
A song that would capture the mood or energy would be "why can't we be friends". That song just puts you in the mood for during a war.
The song that impacts me the most is "Battlefield" by Jordan Sparks. When i listen to it i just want to get up and shake it out and get my moves on. It always cheers me up. Another song would have to be "Move like Jagger" by Maroon 5.You cant help but just shake your butt when that song is on.

I know this isn't the most modern song, but it's a great example in my opinion. "Here comes the sun" by the Beatles is a song that really preaches about getting through the tough times, because every day and every year, the sun comes up and spring comes around from winter. The lyric is "It's been a dark and lonely winter... here comes the sun." I have turned to this song multiple times to teach me the same lesson over and over again; that even though things may seem bleak, or tough or whatever negative spin you put on it, good will always come around eventually.

The "Not Afraid" lyrics by rapper Eminem inspires the listeners to never quite ion what ever they are doing. "We'll walk this world together through the storm" (Line 8) this quote says how the author will work through a situation even though it would be hard. What ever the listener has on their mind, the song helps them think of ways to over come the problem. The song inspires and brings people to never give up no matter what is in their way. To honor and understand our soldiers, a famous song listened to is "I am Proud to be an American". The helps us understand the sacrafices made by our heros out on the battlefield. "I Just Came Back From A War" by Darryl Worley is a happy song of the return of a soldir grom war. Like, "In the Mood" this song celebrates events and has a joyous feeling to it. The mood, essence, and energy of these songs are more connected than any other song I have listened to so far.

Music is a very important thing in my life, and whatever I am listening to that is usually what my mood is like. A song like "Club Can't Handle Me Right Now" by Flo Rida. "You know I know how
To make 'em stop and stare as I zone out
The club can't even handle me right now
Watchin you watchin me I go all out
The club can't even handle me right now
(Yeah yeeaaaaah, yeah yeeaaaaah, yeah yeeaaaaah)
The club can't even handle me right now
(Yeah yeeaaaaah, yeah yeeaaaaah, yeah yeeaaaaah)" this makes the listener want to get up and dance. A song that would remind me of war would be Eminem's hit "Toy Soldiers". Though the lyrics are inappropriete, it is about losing your family and friends around you do to violence, just like what happens in war.
Modern music that would capture the same feel as 'In the Mood' would be 'Till the World Ends' by Britney Spears. The beat and lyrics make people want to dance and have fun, forgetting anything and everything negative in the world. In the 40's, music was very different than Britney's song, but 'In the Mood' did the same thing 'Till the World Ends' does today, it distracts people and almost forces them to have fun during a time of unhappiness. Some of the most well known lyrics of 'Till the World Ends' are
'See The Sunlight
We Ain't Stoppin’
Keep On Dancing Till The World Ends'
Which really just says to have fun, without worrying. You have to live happily, and if you are always in a negative place, you are not really living. This song helps get you 'out of the dumps' you can sing and dance with it, and just have a good time while it's playing!
Most music that honors soldiers tends to be either rock or country, and 3 Doors Down had a very popular song a couple of years ago, 'Citizen/Soldier' that honors all of the men and women fighting for our country by having the lyrics of the song from the perspective of a soldier, which helps communicate the love and dedication they have towards the protection of their country. They first stanza of the song is;
'Beyond the boundaries of your city's lights,
Stand the heroes waiting for your cries.
So many times you did not bring this on yourself,
When that moment finally comes,
I'll be there to help'
The last line, 'I'll be there to help' really hits us, the citizens, and shows us how much these soldiers want to protect us. Although I personally don't know anybody in the army, I know that no matter what, I can count on them to help me, and this song helps me celebrate the respect I have for them, and the honor they have for protecting the United States.
One song that I think of in times of conflict, is 'Imagine' by John Lennon. This song is about peace, and no more fighting, or worries. Lennon says
'Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace '
This song is like an anthem for anti-war, but other lyrics allow it to be an anthem for so much more;
'Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world'
When something bad is going on in the world, I always think of this song, and how John Lennon had the right idea. Why do we have to fight for peace? It just shouts irony! The United States went into war after we were attacked on 9/11, defending our country. I understand that reasoning, but what are we fighting for now? Of course there are reasons to be fighting, but couldn't these arguments be settled in a more civilized fashion? John Lennon impacted me with 'Imagine' by making me think twice about everything. The war we are in now seems like and everyday thing-so much now that we can go weeks without thinking about it-and yet men risk their lives everyday-for what? 'Imagine' definitely changed me, it made me realize how petty some things can be, and how many things need to change in the world.

I think modern music does have a lot of impact on people. There is always a song to describe how someone is feeling, and it can be used to help people cope.
While listening to the song "In the Mood" that you have posted, I realized that this is the same song that I use to replay over and over again at my grandma's house. My grandma had a fake flower pot with dancing flowers in it, and every time you pressed the button, the flowers would dance around playing this song. This song would always put me and my sisters in a great mood.
A song that could capture a mood or energy is 'Every Rose has its Thorn.' This song is very popular and sung by many different artists.
I think if someone is going through any type of conflict, this song can help them. This is because that this song explains that nobody is perfect, and that everybody has different strengths and weaknesses.

A modern song that captures the same mood as the song "In The Mood" would probably be "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO. This song captures the same mood because both songs just put people in a good mood and made them want to dance. Those songs can make people forget about problems around the world and problems in their own life. "Party Rock Anthem" has a catchy beat and repetitive phrases that make the listener always think about that song and put them in a good mood. The lyrics of "Party Rock Anthem" include phrases such as "Everybody just have a good time" and "We're gonna make you lose your mind".
Modern music that makes people forget about what is currently bothering them is "Weightless" by All Time Low. The lyrics are actually about forgetting what is happening and just jam out and have fun. Music like this is important because without it people would not know how to express their pain and anger, and as we have talked about in class anger leads to action and we dont know wheather that action will be good or bad.Specific lyrics in this song that help you to forget are :
Manage me, I'm a mess
Turn a page, I'm a book
Half unread
I wanna be laughed at
Laughed with, just because
I wanna feel weightless
And that should be enough
These words describe someone's thoughts and feelings while an upbeat tune helps you let loose.

An upbeat song that relates to 'In The Mood' is 'The Anthem' By: Good Charlotte. When i listen to it, the lyrics, 'and I dont ever wanna be like you, and I dont wanna do the things you do,' make me wanna do better at whatever I'm doing and prove people wrong. A song that makes me think of the war is 'Wake Me Up When September Ends' By: Green Day. This song makes me reflect on the sacrifices that our soldiers are making to protect our country
I think the song that the song "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO relates to "In the Mood". This song is very fast and upbeat alot like the song "In the Mood". There is a lot of songs now that are like this; upbeat and catchy.
Some music that we turn to is a lot of country music. This genre of music provides comfort and helps people get through tough times like wars. Most country songs have a patriotic part of it to allow the soilders to know we care. The song "Proud to be an American" by Lee Greenwood is an example of a country song that represents the honor we have towards the soilders and the people protecting us. The song states, "And I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free. And I wont forget the men who died, who gave that right to me." These powerful words show our love for our country and our honor. This song is helpful to turn to during times that are hard because it gives us courage and shows our bravery. There are many other songs that can also represent the honor we hold for the thousands of men willingly risking their lives for what they love; their country.
a song that could capture the engery and mood of the song would be "last friday night" by Katy Perry. It shows people dancing and enjoying themselves like in the song "In The Mood" by Glenn Miller. A song that we can turn to in our most recent war would be song like "firework" by katy Perry. This song helps us honor those whoare fighting in war right now. It represnts that were thinking of them and well there a firework. they are special people who are willing to risk there lives for our freedom. the beat of the song is very happy and free. It helps us forget about the dangers and helps take our minds off the sadness of not being able to see our loved ones. the words "baby your a firework, come on show them what your worth, make them go oh, oh ,oh, as you shoot across the sky" help create that phenominal effect that evryone is special, including our soldiers.
